Description
Welcome to SAVTec!
No double-ententre today I'm afraid...

All the usual quality from SAVTec
  • 100% mod-free
  • No Rotors, no scripts. Build uses 4 Pistons - the concept is extremly well tested & generally very safe
  • Nice neat control panel - everything named & grouped
  • Ideal first wheeled-vehicle build for new planets
  • Perfect for new players. Just as useful for seasoned veterans

A quick little something I threw together...
The Scarab is a brand new design that I built mostly by accident while trying to develop a set of collapsible landing gear for a large ship.
Not entirely a bad accident though - the result is actually a really useful & fun little truck that I'll definitely be using in my own survival games.

So what is it & what does it do?
The Scarab is a really simple little transport truck.
It features...
  • 6-wheel drive
  • 4-wheel steering
  • 4 Medium Cargo Containers
  • Remote Control
  • Air intakes (set to Depressurise = ON so you don't suffocate in the cockpit)
  • Twin Small Reactors and a single backup battery
  • Emergency lifting jacks
  • Rear connector + reversing camera

The Scarab carries 2 engineers and is compatible with my "Little T.A.R.T" (see screenshots), as well as all my future land vehicles.
It can connect to the same station connector as the Little T.A.R.T with no alterations needed to anything.
Like the Little T.A.R.T, the Scarab can lift itself clear of the ground for easy access for repairs & maintenance.

The Little T.A.R.T can be found here...

The Scarab is perfect for a first build on a new planet or as an upgrade model to the Little T.A.R.T.

In testing it's really stable to drive and thanks to its onboard gyroscope, it's hard to flip or roll, even in tight turns (though I recommend keeping your speed to something sensible).
The Scarab is more manouverable than the Little T.A.R.T. It has a tighter turning circle and is slightly more capable on rough ground.
Since it was a very quick build however (took me around an hour), it's not as well-tested as some of my other builds.
Feel free to improve the handling to your own liking by adjusting the wheel suspension settings & Gyroscope power.

Control Panel / Hotbars
The Control Panel has been made nice & neat for you, so everything's easy to identify.
Currently I'm experiencing bugs with setting up Control Panel groups on the hotbar, so for now I've left the hotbars blank. When the bugs are fixed I'll update the build.

Limitations
Like the Little T.A.R.T, the Scarab uses small conveyor blocks to move cargo between its containers and connector. Since some assembled components are too large to fit through small conveyors, the Scarab is best suited for carrying ore.

Feedback
Comments / questions / suggestions / constructive criticism all very welcome.
I've even been known to do the odd request-build from time to time, so if you have an idea, drop me a line. If I like it I may build it.

Well I was trying to build aeroplane-style wheeled landing gear for a *really big* ship! If the wheels were larger compared to the width of the vehicle (like maybe 10x10 or bigger) it would've looked more in proportion. As it is this is way too wide & flat for the look I wanted.
Could still use the chassis as a deployable landing gear but I don't think it'd look as cool.

How did you go from "collapsible landing gear" to heavy-duty truck?!
