Description

This mod changes dull vanilla/R&F promotion trees into better, more realistic and funnier ones.
Sorry i could not describe all promotions in here. Why? Because 1000 characters are far to be enough. If you want to discover them, and since a picture is worth thousand words, i simply advise to browse the screenshots of the mod.

Well here we are, after 2month working hard, around 4400 code lines and a hundred handmade promotion icons later, here is the biggest baby i ever made !

I always thought there were several things wrong with the actual civilization 6 combat balance. Some values here were too strong, some other here useless in specific situations they really should not. Like lot of mod creators, I tried to solve that with tweaking units raw stats, but that wasn't right. New issues kept poping out in my face out when i used to solve one point. And someday i had this bright and crazy idea : Making over all the promotions trees were the best way, but hard in my opinion to balance the game. Because promotion tree suggest an evolution through xp which can easily bend balance between units.

Now here we are ! All 14 promotions trees has been totally re-built with brand new promotions. Some will remind you a vanilla nostalgic effect but in most of cases you will meet brand new effects which you will have to learn again !

My main goals while making these new promotion trees were :

  • Giving every class at least one irresistible value/aspect so that none feel let down anymore.
  • More balanced, more useful and more specializing choices at the same time.
  • Realism !
  • Every Unit has now a Native Ability.
  • A funnier gameplay as a result. These new promotions/abilities will force player to move and attack with units in a more structured and strategic way. Each unit type has now its own strategies and has almost everytime a "counter promotion tree" unit.
  • If you remember the first point : Nerfing ranged ! if not, read it again : p
  • All naval classes get their healing ability sooner. (because that was really annoying)
  • Wars from seas will be a lot tougher to pull out. I want all naval units feeling like more threatened by land or air units
  • Air units range increase slightly better through their respective promotion.
  • No overpowered class. Your favourite promoted units can always be in danger because of the lack of powerful defending effects i removed into vanilla promotion trees. Vanilla tree promotion hardly let some weaknesses, and that was one of the reason our wars were annoying i figured that out.
  • New and actually beautiful for once, promotion icons which fit better its effects/title (with real gold/bronze color, ultimate will be a greenish alliage that make me think of weird reflections on japanese tamahagane).



- Compatible with "Unit expansion (Steel and thunder)" Mod. Had to remove its anti-cavalry bonus and rewrite mine over it.
- Compatible with "More Monks" Mod. (Change about Warrior Monks should not conflict anymore)
- Partially Compatible with Warfare Expanded : Complete Edition (Meaning i do not really advise it but it's working : at your own risks ! Some Promotion trees merged, crossed, some abilities can cumulate like Helicopters grabbing 2 bonus vs HeavyCavalry). If you are a daredevil, why not ?
- Not compatible with Warfare Expanded : Unique Units (They both edit too much same promotion database and result is a mess).
- Not compatible with Civ5 Scouts.

Even if they represent hundreds of working hours, I'm sharing my mods for free like most of mod creators. But deep down I'm really hoping you to do that little extra thing that would help me a lot : joining any of my pages (patreon, facebook, instagram). Just that really! Don't feel obliged to give something, with Patreon there is indeed a free option that grants you basic news/content and it will only take few seconds of your time. That being said I'm an artist irl and I sometimes struggle to put my personal projects on the saddle. I had a mod like this for Civ V but it was really overpowered. This one isn't. It's well balanced and really it just makes the game better. Thanks for making it :)

for the users who might use this mod, this mod changes the mechanic of units crossing the river. In original game, the only way to cross river is to stick to the river and use all the movement points. But this mod allows you to cross the river if you have the appropriate movement point. This makes melee unit's movement a lot faster.

One of my Must Have mods. It's a pity it doesn't really work with Warfare Expanded but it does with Steel & Thunder, so ying yang. ;) I wonder if S&W works with Japan Reborn (because S&W expands with the Sohei) and someday I must test that. If so, a cool addition would be adding the Zero figher plane for the modern age because both of Japan's unique units zero out (oh that's funny if you understand the grammar) and can't be upgraded (meaning, also, that any promotions die with them) which sucks, esp if you play with a mod that limits the number of units a civ can have, as I do.. It's a cool historical reality but tough in gameplay when your units die out.

And as a neo-Brit the legacy of your units is a big deal culturally. Nobody respects the history of their regiments like the Brits.

As they bloody should, mate. These units are multi-century legends.

Does “Warfare Expanded: Unique Units” in the compatibility section refer to “Steel and Thunder: Unique Units”, or was it a different mod?

Is there a way to stop the excess promotions? I am getting extra promotions when all possible are taken. Which makes scouts unable to auto-explore since they have an "available" promotion and some other similar glitches.
