House Mods

Description
A tastefully understated mod for your purchased houses. Cleans up some house decoration, lighting and arrangement concerns and adds lots of new, upgraded furniture and more realistic light. Aesthetically Pleasing (TM) or your money back.

UPDATE: My apologies for the lack of updates - the CK has made a fiendish mess of Hjerim (crash-on-exit bug), and it seems to be affected by so many different vectors that I'm afraid to keep modding it. Apparently, placing too many lights/removing too many vanilla alchemy ingredients causes the game to crash when exiting the house with my added bookshelves inside. Why? Two words. Bug. Thesda.

In any case, more of the mod has been accomplished. If one finds weapon racks are moved and one's equipment is hanging in mid air, all one must do is place them in the most assuredly fresh location. The lights have been more carefully tweaked to be both visually exciting and not conflict with one another (please, Beth, I beg you - stop making these as console/PC hybrids. Stop embarassing yourselves).

GENERAL

- Placed apothecary satchels on all alchemy tables in player-owned housing for ingredient storage and access. Seriously Bethesda!
- Placed enchanter's satchels near all enchanting tables. Look for them hanging on the wall or on the table edges.
- Fixed lighting to look more natural. Light sources are now the centering for their respective lights. Mood is much improved in most houses/rooms.
- Removed some of the annoying clutter (especially baskets) that would often get in your way and just end up as junk randomly rolling around.
- Enchanting benches received special dramatic lighting treatment for their dual candle rows as well as their green swirling globes.
- Food items on plates throughout the houses have been put on lockdown after a rash of strange behavior. The forces of physics could not be reached for comment.

BREEZEHOME (WHITERUN)

- Ridiculous floodlights near windows mostly removed; in their place, candles on the dining table and in the alchemy room. Candle dish added upstairs so that your Lydia doesn’t randomly talk to you out of the darkness of your own bedroom like a creeper.
- Mannequin added to the upper floor because apparently players can't get enough of that sort of thing.
- Alchemy room changed; enchanting pad added; lighting re-struck in order to get all medieval in that house.

HJERIM (WINDHELM)

- Windows have been added all over the first floor – two on either side of the entryway, three on the south wall. Furniture has been shifted and added to ensure that the house looks like you live in it rather than use it to set people up to be slain like mob victims.
- Jorleif has decided to stop being cheap like all the other stewards, and in thanks for your efforts during the civil war, he’s personally had bookcases shipped down from the College in Winterhold for your secret study!
- Speaking of the secret study (alchemy/enchanting room) a huge amount of furniture, items and lighting changes were implemented. No more dark, creepy murderer’s closet here!
- Fixed that darn broom and clothes iron that kept popping out of their positions and flying all over the master bedroom.
- Lights on the upper floor as well as dust beams from windows added and rearranged.
- Added a fourth mannequin in the armory room. It may even at this point have stopped animating itself with human animations like it’s possessed.
- Second shelf of display cases added at top of stairs.
- The kitchen, like the secret room, was lit like a cave. Now, the second fire pit actually emits light, and lights were cut/created all round.
- Another fireplace has been added on the first floor for a warmer dining room. Looks very fit for a badass Viking adventure.
- Second entrance added in the back corner of the first floor, since that space seemed completely wasted and awkward.
- Player chest added on first floor close to back entrance/secret study. To replace the one in the bedroom, a standard Norse bedroom chest was inserted instead.
- If anyone is wondering, the banner added near the back exit is NOT just a Stormcloak banner; this is to represent the city of Windhelm. Haters who joined the Imperials therefore need not take offense.
- The outside of Hjerim has been carefully decorated to look cooler.

HONEYSIDE (RIFTEN)

- Almost no changes – this house was pretty well-made. Lighting was created and shifted in the basement for a more roguish/dungeony effect; all banners were quick-switched by Riften ninjas to be Riften banners instead of generic ones; a light has been added in the corner of the bedroom next to the mudcrab.

PROUDSPIRE MANOR (SOLITUDE)

- Massive lighting rework. Walls are no longer covered in glaring white light; many more deep-sunk lights were added to windows; candles now emit more accurate “medieval mood” lighting. Take special note of the symphony of visual effects in the top floor study (Revised! Now less crazy!).
- Small weapon rack/shield display above mantle in kitchen added. Display your Solitude pride.
- Cupboard added in basement where the creepy goat head was (look up above the cupboard! Surprise!).
- The chaurus eggs on the shelf in the alchemy area were removed so that they stop rolling off and going all over the place.
- Mystified as to why there's a window next to the enchanting table? Take a stroll outside and look at the house.

VLINDREL HALL (MARKARTH)

- Lighting tweaks, especially in the enchanting room/bedroom and entryway. Entryway braziers now look mightily dwarven.
- Entryway clutter and extraneous “kicking baskets” removed.
- Dwemer door added to your bedroom for some privacy.
- My baby, Vlindrel's Forge, added for kicks and giggles.

WARNING! ADVERTENCIA! Known/possible problems:

1. Some of the items added for decoration still behave irrationally. Again, I would appreciate any info people could give me about their experience.
2. If your character owned the house with all the old items in it already, you may experience some problems with those items still spawning aberrantly in their typical places. Most can be removed just by picking them up. It seems that the others can be deleted by simply reloading the house cell/travelling around for a while.

Future additions planned:

Hjerim: a basement/ale cellar with a nice little smithing corner/nook.. or something!
Proudspire Mannor: a lower dungeony level for added props and treats

Please report any bugs/concerns. I want to iron out any problems, so comment below with your experience! Also, SUGGEST AWAY! Crepuscularity wants YOU for improving House Mods! Anything goes, so give me your heart's desires...

You can get one home per major city, save Dawnstar, Morthal, and Falreath. In those three you purchase land and build your houses from scratch.

can we buy multiple houses?

Love the mod, but the th back room of Hjerim, where the other exit is placed, is where the kids room is placed when you build it. And there is no way anyone can sleep in that room. It turns into a clipped mess.

Try using TES5Edit (there are how to's on YouTube) to clean up the base files first.

Oh, and in Windhelm you put the extra door in the child room, and it clips through a shelf. Heartfire jank I guess.

Do you plan on doing the Windhelm basement soon? It's the only thing missing for this house.

I wish you hadn't added Vlindrel's Forge to Vlinrel Hall. :( While it is beautiful, its a little too execisve for my taste.

With Hjerim i have some issues. the extra door is right behind the desk in the childrens room. If you could move around some things that would be perfect. Thank you
