MEC 'Mellifica' Freighter (Original) (5-Slot)

The Muthos Engineering Consortium is proud to present the 'Mellifica' freighter! Featuring a generous forward cargo bay and powered by the MEC's renowned HEX-E engines, the 'Mellifica' is perfect for both private traders seeking their fortunes and established industries looking for a vessel to handle logistics.

While the 'Mellifica' is a civilian vessel that lacks the heavy armor of the MEC's military offerings, we know it's a dangerous galaxy out there. The ship is not defenseless - it has some shields and armor, and also carries six point defense hardpoints in key coverage positions to buy the time needed for a hasty escape from pirates using its above-average jump drive.

Here are the key specifications of the MEC 'Mellifica':

-5 upgrade slots
-Good hyperspace range (9 sectors baseline)
-Does not rely on inertia dampeners for brake thrust
-Cheap
-Large cargo hold
-Decent maneuverability (it is a cargo vessel, after all)
-Three internal frameworks for customization

-4x size 0.5 point defense hardpoints
-2x size 1 weapon/heavy point defense hardpoints

By default, the 'Mellifica' comes equipped with VPD-1 and VPD-2 custom turrets. If you'd like to use other MEC turrets with it, check out the MEC Signature Collection!

At the front of the cargo bay of the 'Mellifica' is a hexagonal area containining the logo of the Muthos Engineering Consortium. Customers are encouraged (though not required) to replace this with their own logo or heraldry of choice.

The MEC 'Mellifica' started out as a sort of directionless corvette design, but evolved into a freighter. The frontal cargo bay was added last, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out. The MEC has been lacking a dedicated freighter for a while - I also have a superfreighter planned for further down the road.

The ship is named for the Mexican honey wasp, Brachygastra mellifica. In addition to being one of only a handful of wasp species that produces honey, these wasps are important natural pollinators of avocados.
