ZM 'Pterostigma' Peripheral Hangar Bay

Produced by Zethina Manufacturing - a subsidiary of the Muthos Engineering Consortium - the 'Pterostigma' Peripheral Hangar Bay features armored internals, and provides a small full-service fighter facility complete with a control deck, approach lights, and comms antennae. While its capacity for fighter storage is quite small, it is designed to work well in tandem with larger hangar bays elsewhere on the ship it is attached to.

The 'Pterostigma' is designed to attach laterally to the outside of a ship's hull, or at the front of a stack of other ZM peripheral components via its Constellation Aeronautics rear connector port. Please note that Zethina Manufacturing's limited warranty does not cover incidents of pilot error when approaching the hangar bay.

Note of warning: fighter return AI can be pretty terrible, and fighters may take a second pass while attempting to dock, or, infrequently, get stuck circling the hangar bay. This is a problem with small and/or recessed hangar bays in general and is not unique to this design. Facing the hangar bays in the direction of returning fighter squads and/or using mutiple hangar bays seems to help. Nevertheless, if frustrations persist, you may wish to use a different design.

The fighter in the screenshots is a (quick and messy) repaint of a MEC VF-1 'SImillima'. If you'd like a fighter design to match the 'Pterostigma', Zethina Manufacturing offers the ZF-5 'Cyanea' Railgun Fighter. This module also matches well with the TESLA Industries 'Arrowhead'.
