Less Default Hair [for 1.0 & 1.1]

Description
Isn't it frustrating to have the opportunity to get pawns with good traits and skills, but who happen to have hair so horrendous that we can't stand to look at them? With so many excellent hair mods, there seems to be little reason to continue using all the subpar vanilla hair. But, while most vanilla hairstyles are ugly or at least inferior to similar styles in hair mods, some of us would rather not remove all of them.

Vanilla 1.0 and 1.1 hairstyles I have removed:
  • Afro
  • Braided knot
  • Brief ponytail
  • Burgundy ....(seems too plain to me)
  • Curly
  • Firestarter
  • Greasy swoop
  • Long
  • Pigtails ........(because Spoons Hair Mod's Lulu looks better)
  • Princess
  • Scatman
  • Scorpion tail
  • Troubaduor
  • Tuft
  • Wavy
Vanilla 1.1 hairstyles I have removed (new):
  • Bowlcut
  • Bravo
  • Elder
  • Lackland
  • Locks
  • Primal
  • Recruit
  • Revolt
  • Rockstar
  • Rookie
  • Scrapper
  • Shave top braid
Vanilla 1.0 and 1.1 hairstyles I wanted to keep:
* Bob .... (F) * Flowy .. (F) * Messy .. (M) * Mohawk . (M usually) ... {now Punk and Tribal, not Urban} * Mop .... (M) (removed F) {texture has been modified} * Senorita (F) * Shaved . (M) (removed F) {removed Rural} * Spikes . (M usually) ... {now Punk and Tribal, not Urban} * Topdog . (M)
Vanilla 1.1 hairstyles I wanted to keep (new):
* Cleopatra (F) * Cute .... (F) * Decent .. (F) * Fancy bun (F) * Fringe .. (F) * Frozen .. (F) ... {added Rural, so now Rural and Urban} * Junkie .. (F usually) * Keeper .. (F usually) * Ponytails (F) * Randy ... (M) (formerly M usually) * Savage .. (M usually) * Snazzy .. (M) * Sticky .. (M) (formerly Any) * Warden .. (F usually)
- Note 0: (M) = men-only; (F) = women-only; (M usually) = rarely on women; (F usually) = rarely on men; (Any) = equally likely on men and women.
- Note 1: While I did keep Mop, I improved the texture to make it look better and reversed it so that it's easily distinguishable from Rimhair's "Neat" style.
- Note 2: The removed hairstyles can still be chosen for starting characters via EdB Prepare Carefully.
- Note 3: The installation of hair mods for more variety is recommended.

CHANGELOG (CHANGE HISTORY):
Version 1.5 (for RimWorld 1.1 and 1.0)
  • Added loadfolders.xml and restructured in order to support both 1.0 and 1.1.
  • Removed 12 vanilla hairstyles from RimWorld 1.1.
  • Allowed 14 of the best hairstyles from RimWorld 1.1 to remain, with minor tweaks to Frozen, Randy and Sticky.
  • Added 14 of the best hairstyles of RimWorld 1.1 to the 1.0 version, so RimWorld 1.0 users can enjoy them.
Version 1.41 (for RimWorld 1.0)
  • The Messy style has been added back. I've decided that it is decent and different enough from modded hair.
  • Mohawk is now both Punk and Tribal. (It used to be strictly Punk.)
  • Spikes is now both Punk and Tribal. (It used to be strictly Punk.)

RECOMMENDED HAIR MODS:

OTHER RECOMMENDED MODS:
I'd also recommend one of these two mods (but not both):

IMPORTANT NOTE ON COMPATIBILITY WITH RIMWORLD 1.0:
This has been tested and shown to work on RimWorld 1.0.2551, compiled February 21, 2020. However, if you use the DRM-free version of RimWorld 1.0, then it is likely that you are using RimWorld 1.0.2408, compiled October 1, 2019. If so, you will get serious red errors with this mod - or virtually any mod updated for RimWorld 1.1 - and it will refuse to work.

On the other hand, if you are using the Steam version of RimWorld 1.0, then you should be fine because the Steam version was updated to the latest 2551 1.0 revision.

If you are using RimWorld 1.0.2408, then you will need to do one of these things to resolve the red errors:
  1. Edit 'About.xml' in the \About\ folder, deleting the <packageId> tags and everything between them.
  2. Uninstall this or any other mod updated for RimWorld 1.1.
  3. Update your RimWorld to 1.0.2551.

On choice #2: You could switch to using Less Default Hair [Legacy version for 0.9 and 1.0], instead. This is the old version.

On choice #3: If you want or need to have both RimWorld 1.0 and RimWorld 1.1 installed simultaneously, such as needing to update mods, you could follow this Discord discussion[discordapp.com]. It explains how to do this using Steam.

CREDITS:
Special thanks to:
  • Mittsies for the inspiration that the No Awful Hairstyles mod provided me. (All my files are my own or modified from the core game.)
  • skullywag and kchou94 for extracting and releasing the RimWorld core art source[ludeon.com]. That made it simple for me to modify (and update) the texture for the Mop hair style.

Hey Thundercraft! I mean, mod still works but, can you update it for 1.2?

Thanks Bro!!

Thundercraft, I just have to say this: Thank you for being such a good author and, well, being :o)
Your explanations are detailed and sophisticated and show that you care.

BTW: I would appreciate any feedback about the hairstyles. Let me know how you feel about them, such as whether I should have removed more of them or if there are 1 or more hairstyles I should have left in. However, I do ask that you give me a reason or brief explanation of why I should.

Note: While I don't think it needs to be said, I won't remove all of them. There already exists a different mod for that.

I've finally updated to 1.1. Whew! :lunar2020sweatrat: This was more difficult than I had anticipated.

This does have support for RimWorld 1.0. However, I learned that it will only work if you have the latest (2551) revision of 1.0, which was only released a few days ago. Steam users will be fine. But if you get a red error, check the "Important Note on Compatibility with RimWorld 1.0" section above. You may want or need to use this, instead: Less Default Hair [Legacy version for 0.9 and 1.0]

BTW: RimWorld 1.0 users might appreciate how I added 14 hairstyles from RimWorld 1.1. See the description.

thanks @Thundercraft!

I m wondering now if this mod will still work in 1.1? or if not do you plan to update it?

@AriFerrari
It's always good practice to keep a backup of a good save if you plan to change your mods in any way.

That said, I can't imagine that this simple mod would negatively impact an existing save. All it does is use safe Xpath patches to change the <hairTags> of most vanilla hair. And most of these are changed from some combination of Urban, Rural, Punk and Tribal categories to a non-existent "IgnoreMe" category. This has the game ignore the hair as a choice since this fake category does not apply to any pawns.

Do note: If you apply it to an existing save, this mod will not remove or replace their hair if they already had ugly hair that this mod forbids.

Just to be safe: I just loaded a save after adding Less Default Hair, despite not originally having this mod. The error log did not show any errors. And my colonists still have their hair.

i hope i didnt miss it somewhere in the description, but is this safe to add to an existing save?
