Remember Uncle Dane's concept for a dispenser backpack? well, I considered making that, but as I thought about the stats for it, I realized it wouldn't be very good at it's intended purpose. the "always hauling" movement speed decrease would make it harder for engineer to keep up with his team, which clashes with the frontline support playstyle Dane was trying to make.

do to these limitations, I came to the conclusion that a dispenser backpack wouldn't be very good as a frontline support weapon, and would work better as a defensive weapon for helping other engineers set up their nests. And, quite frankly, I think the engineer has enough defensive options already.

So I started working on a portable dispenser concept based more on the medigun. I had originally planned on a simple short-circuit-esque secondory weapon, but then I recalled just how powerful dispensers are, and how powerful the medigun is, and concluded that having a shotgun to back you up would make the engineer too strong an opponent, especially when you compare it to medic, who only has a syringe gun.

so I redid the design to be a shotgun replacement that can be paired with the short circuit and gunslinger for the ultimate frontline support class that doesn't need to hang back and babysit his buildings (except his teleporter).

Then, after letting the idea simmer for awhile as a sketch, I finally decided to make a model for it. the original model was crude, and wasn't even textured. I ended up having to redo the model. but it was still rather crude looking; it was my first attempt at making a tf2 weapon.
Then, after months of silence, KaidemonLP The Juice King approached me and offered to touch up the model. I accepted his offer, and he did an awesome job on it.

model features:

+looks like somebody combined a Rescue Ranger with a level 3 Dispenser
+meter on side that has the potential to display current ammo capacity. (the meter can now turn)
+backpack capable of displaying dispenser screen
+Jigglebones!!!

Proposed stats:

Level 30 portable dispenser
Primary fire provides ammo stream (looks like short circuit) that refills the ammo of teammates.
“stocking” teammates refills metal supply. (So you aren't going to get metal out of it unless you're supporting your teammates)
Generates it’s own ammo (hidden stat) (it has the ammo capacity and fill rate)
+5 health per second on wearer (half the rate of a level one dispenser, also this is the MAX heal rate, for when you aren't in combat. in combat, it would only be 3.5 per second) (this could also be applied as an AOE while the weapon is in use)
50-100% slower deploy speed
100% damage penalty (hidden stat)
Cannot build dispensers
-25% less metal from ammo pickups
-50% less metal from dispensers
Weapon Starts at 25 ammo and is unaffected by weapons lockers (hidden stat)

Edit: since everyone keeps saying "but this is basically a better version of the medigun", I'd like to point out some key differences between the two:
  • The Provisioner cannot overheal
  • The Provisioner cannot ubercharge
  • The healing rate isn't even close to that of the Medigun, which heals somewhere around 25 hp per second
  • In healing, the Medigun outclasses the Provisioner in every way, shape, and form.
  • the Medic is significantly faster than Engineer, making keeping up with his teammates a lot easier for him.
