Description
Note: You might like the second version (Dark Fortress II) better as some of the weaknesses of this design have been addressed. But I left this version here because it's less costly and doesn't have any underground parts.

Do you have too much crushed rock sitting around and you're not sure what to do with it? Do you like to customize things and not just spawn and forget? Well maybe this is the answer to your crushed rock surplus.

This is a size class 4 59x8x61 sized armored concrete bunker with an unfinished interior that you can customize to your liking.

Features:

  • Two layers of Armored Concrete blocks all over the top and sides.
  • An extra layer on top of the generator, fuel, core, and ammo.
  • 29x29 block landing pad handles most CVs under size class 3.
  • Carbon Composite floor.
  • 4 Missile Launchers for drone management.
  • Sentry guns for keeping wildlife off of the landing pad.
  • Blinky landing pad lights remind you of Blade Runner every time you land!
  • Huge mostly empty 2 block high interior that you can fix up with walls and whatever fancy interior decorating you want.
  • Solar Panels with 8 Capacitors
  • T1 Large Generator, Fuel Tanks, O2 Tanks
  • Wireless connections on each corner for good wireless logistics coverage.
  • Comes with a complementary advanced constructor (just for the sake of completeness).

The center of the pad is pretty obvious and is a good place for a repair bay block but this isn't included.

The glass shack on top has space for a repair console.

The center of the interior is marked with yellow and a + sign.

This base has the weakness that the generator and core is right under the solar panels so bombers will tend to destroy the solar panels. Therefore it's more suitable for low-threat planets without bomber drones. If you want buried generators, cores, and tanks, all offset from the solar panels to solve this problem then check out Dark Fortress II.

Supplying the factory with stacks of Armored Concrete blocks will get the production time down to 1s. Supplying it with just concrete and steel plates will probably get it down to 1s or close to that. So it doesn't take too long to produce this with a little prep work.

Warning: The number of columns on the inside is pretty minimal and for the most part they're placed at the maximum safe spacing for an otherwise unsupported interior like this. Before removing them, place walls and use the Show Structural Integrity option in the Debug tab of the N panel to make sure you're safe to remove them.

Note: Added a minimal second layer under the floor to help avoid having to mop the floor of dirt on the inside. This may make it easier to place without having to remove dirt on the inside, but you may get it overhanging terrain unless you flattened it all. So either flatten the whole area first (time consuming) or just spawn it and add blocks to the underside to make it look right. Use PgUp and PgDn to control the vertical placement.
