BUT - units are really time consuming for you need to do 50 seperate images for each units animations. For ships and units with moving parts it's even more.
Beside this, with just replacing unit graphics, spaceships can't have shadows.
This is for AoE uses no seperate shadow layers for non-flying (bird) units. You can see this for units have black shadows instead of transparent ones.
So without editing the dat file (all players in mp need the mod to get no desyncs) by adding these shadowlayers, I can't add shadows without the shadows (that are seperated from the ships visually for they are flying) would interfere with other objects in an unrealistic way.
So it's not impossible - but not that likely I'll do spaceships in the near future.
But lincolnlou is working on some alien replacements (just mines and stuff for now, but he's working on more).
