I made a lot of changes, including a lot of simplifying, to make it easier for the player to look around and figure out what he has to do. I also removed the time constraints around "saving the cube," so now the player can solve things at his own pace.
If you have haven't tried this level yet (or gave up for the aforementioned reasons, please check out Save the Cube, Kill the Turrets v2 instead.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm seriously considering just having the funnels always be on, thinking that the 4 of them, symmetrically arranged might also help the player get stay oriented while he's learning his way around the big "building."
Always interesting, what you learn once you bounce a level of real users.
Thanks again -- Jaz and Prototype -- for the feedback!
I could see you wanted me to do "this and then that" but that doesn't mean I was going to do it =P
You could probably see that I was planning an "A to B to C, etc." set of steps for solving it, but that you could skip more than half of those steps by "thinking with portals." You didn't want to just "trust" that K and L would be handed to you when you came to them. I guess that's the difference between author's intention and an actual player's experience :-o
Question: When you first entered the level, and landed on the first walkway, did you find that it was about 85% covered in orange gel (allowing you to run from one end to the other without interruption), or only about 20% covered in orange gel? When I watched your demo, it looked more like 20%, even though I had coated about 85% of it.
Thanks.
This isn't my favourite type of level, when I first entered I felt lost, and after finding the exit on the other side of the massive map, I simply couldn't find the dot (symbol) to activate it. Anyway, by disregarding the first "note" in the description I was able to solve it. I agree with Jade BGE about the gel, it is very helpful in a map this large to prevent lengthy trips between buttons.
trying to remember which button does what.
where each button is, & how to get there.
remembering where the panels are.
& with the funels all on a timer.
speed gel helps a lot.
I think I know the 1st objective.
just can't put it together.
if I could see each part of a sequence from any place, in that sequence.
& was not doing it on a timer.
I think I could do it.
consept good
my ability lacking.
I gather the 1st part is:
using funels & polarity, I move the reflector & drop onto angled panel, to faithplate.
which sends it to where I can use it to laser turrets.
I will keep it in my list & try again
