WORKING UPLOAD. Sub here, not to the old one
Re-uploaded due to a major bug with the Steam copy of the blueprint.
If you're subbed to the original, please unsub from it and sub to this version instead. The old one is broken - some of the features are missing from it.

For reference, the original workshop page can be found here...

Thankyou for choosing SAVTec Y.O.U.T.W.A.T!
Inventing rude new acronyms for innocent things since 2013!
You know you love it!

All the usual quality from SAVTec
  • 100% mod-free
  • No scripts. Build uses a complex but tested-safe rotor based 5th wheel trailer hitch and 2 very stable pistons.
  • Nice neat control panel - everything named, grouped & hidden where appropriate
  • Pre-configured hotbar for drivers cockpit (right hand drive of course!)
  • Ideal 3rd stage upgrade to your wheeled transport fleet
  • Can pull any trailer with a compatible hitch
  • Requires advanced knowledge to build in survival but it can be done!
  • Practical & fun for new players & seasoned veterans alike!

Introduction to the T6 series
The T6 is, like its designation suggests, a 6x6 transport chassis. It can be configured to any number of specifications and used either as a tractor for pulling trailers or on its own as a 6-wheeled cargo / utility truck.
Y.O.U.T.W.A.T is exactly what you'd expect.... A "Yellow Ordinance & Utility Tractor With Articulated Trailer" or simply "Tractor With Articulated Trailer" (T.W.A.T) for short.

The list of builds that are compatible with this truck is now too long to fit in the description, so I've moved it to the discussion section. For the full list, please click HERE

What a complete T.W.A.T!
No T.W.A.T would be complete without "A Trailer"... it would in fact just be a "T.W", and that wouldn't be fun at all.
For this reason I've included the standard model trailer, which is a fairly basic cargo carrier.

I'll probably knock out several more T.W.A.T's in the future to showcase different types of trailer, some examples being a Hydrogen Tanker, Survival module, flatbed, weapons platform, mobile generator, etc.
I have lots of ideas for trailers and when the Survival update rolls out, I also intend to release a Hydrogen Engine version of the tractor.

In the meantime I encourage you to design & share your own "A.T's" for use with my "T.W's".
Together we can make many complete T.W.A.T's!

Except T.W.A.T's are useful!
T.W.A.T's have a number of cool & useful features, not limited to the obvious ones. Here's the scabs & cheese of the matter...
  • The articulated hitch pivots on all 3 axes - pitch, yaw and roll, ensuring as many wheels as possible stay on the ground at any one time & hence keeping the vehicle stable & gripping the terrain.
  • Detachable trailer - the T.W.A.T can pull any compatible trailer you design for it.
  • Artificial mass for use in augmented gravity, like on the moon
  • Handy external button controls for lowering the parking legs, detaching the trailer, etc
  • Built-in stone sorting & ejection for the trailer
  • Remote control + 3 cameras (1 forward, 2 reverse)
  • Beacon for the trailer so you don't loose track of where you left it
  • Twin small reactors plus backup reactor and 2 pairs of batteries (2 on the truck, 2 on the trailer)
  • Emergency solar charging
  • Air "intakes" for use on planets with atmosphere
  • O2/H2 Generator for use on planets without atmosphere
  • Dorsal Connector for loading the tractor with ice & Uranium fuel (or later, Hydrogen when we get Hydrogen Engines)
  • Dorsal Collectors on both tractor and trailer for easy loading, plus a rear-facing Connector on the trailer for fast unloading.

Someone's got to keep Y.O.U.T.W.A.T's under control!
T.W.A.T's aren't difficult to control but it's a thankless task and someone's gotta do it.
If the responsibility of stepping in to control a T.W.A.T falls to you, just remember the 3 cardinal rules and you'll be fine...
  • Hotbar 1 operates the main tractor systems
  • Hotbar 2 operates the main trailer systems
  • You can't drive Y.O.U.T.W.A.T..... unless you're in the correct cockpit. She's right-hand drive.

If you design & use your own trailers, you will of course want to reconfigure some of the controls.

Be aware that detaching one trailer & attaching another may break certain hotkey commands & control groups if you later re-attach the first trailer. This is an inherent flaw with how merged / unmerged grids handle hotkeys & control groups and there's nothing I can do about it except tell you that it might happen so you know to watch for it.

The thing about T.W.A.T's...
  • Always try to have the tractor & trailer in a straight line & on a level surface before un-hitching the trailer. This will make it easier to hitch up to another trailer afterwards.
  • Always lock the hitch rotors before disengaging the merge block on the hitch. This will prevent the hitch mechanism from dropping down & mean that you don't have to fart around with the rotors to get it to go back straight & level.
  • Weird things will happen if you paste the truck into space. This is due to how the hitch rotors are assembled. In any kind of natural gravity the truck will work just fine but in space it'll try to spin.

How to make yourself a T.W.A.T
T.W.A.T's are by no means easy to build in Survival mode, owing to the complex nature of constructing the hitch mechanism.
It CAN be done however.
To do it you'll want to first paste the blueprint into a Creative mode world and detach the two rotors called "Hitch Tilt Rotor".
With these rotors detached, move the tractor & trailer apart and take separate blueprints of them.
To construct in survival you should built each separately. Once they're complete, move them into position & line up the rotors, then hit "Attach" to join the hitch together.

If you want to build your own T.W.A.T in Survival mode and need more tips / instructions, please leave a comment & I'll do my best to explain it further.

How to make your friends look a T.W.A.T
Park your T.W.A.T in visual range of your friends.
Beep the horn.
Works every time!

Things to do with a T.W.A.T when you're bored
Try driving one around on the moon. Increase the max velocity on all the wheels and hit some nice jumps. The truck has its own gyroscope, so you can use the mouse & pitch / roll keys to climb insanely steep slopes and pull off some really cunning stunts! Honestly, this thing is amazing fun on the moon!

@Neider... You're welcome. Glad you got it sussed. As for keeping the wheels down, yeah, that can be a pain. My solution is to set up each axle slightly differently. If the truck pulls up at the front, increase the strength of the rear axle & perhaps reduce the height offset on the front, so the truck is naturally nose-diving slightly. If you also reduce the power setting for the rear axle/s, you'll reduce the wheelie effect. As you say, mass and centre of mass play a big part as well. You can make as much of a science of those as you care to - personally I work by trial & error, - add mass here, reduce it there, move the pivot a bit, change the moment. There are so many variables, terrain, gravity & Klang not being the least of them.

Thanks Sav! I appreciate the feedback, I fiddled a little bit more with those suspensions and got it working, only one thing I couldn't figure out yet, how do you make your truck don't look or stay nose up when transporting a heavy load? I still see my truck has problems keeping itself with all wheels on ground whether it's accelerating or decelerating, whereas yours stays stable like a charm, I could see you didn't touch the gyro too much, so I'm running out of ideas... Maybe is the center of mass? Suggestions?

Hi @Lander. Sorry I didn't see your comment for ages. I now have a new phone with more data, so will be able to check out your truck... once I've figured out how to work the phone that is. First to put tape over all the nasty little sensors though.

@Lamder1 lol, I was teasing you. More of an RP/inside joke with Sav.

"@Lander1 Can you get on it without a jetpack? Can it take steep hills? Is it really better, or just bigger?"

Yes the crew and cargo ground access Lifts are underneath the rear of the tractor, It can take any steep hills as it has 8x Atmospheric engines. It can also haul a great deal of cargo. No it is not better, just different. No offence was intended, my comment is a counter-joke for the advert in the description.

Thanks very much @Neider. Glad you're enjoying it! It sounds a bit like you may just need to play with the suspension settings on your trucks. Suspension in SE can sometimes be tricky to set up just right and can cause some odd behaviour like you describe. It takes a while to learn to use the different settings to good effect but persevere & you'll get there with it.
It's also possible you're seeing some new bugs / behaviour that I don't know about. I've been without internet since the Major Survival Overhaul & haven't received any game updates since then, so any changes / bugs from after that are unknown to me.

Amazing build indeed SAV, can you give a few tips on the building of the hitch? I'm trying to build my own truck with trailer, following your truck a little bit as inspiration since I've seen it works so well (Building something for my own needs), at first I've tried to use 2 large containers for the small grid truck, found out it would be too unstable to manage even while using DAS script, so I passed to small containers, once full, the truck just gives up doing overturns, can't take much turning when loaded, the trailer will keep going and drag the tractor itself, even when I set the X rotor for -90 / 90 degree, I'm sure when I downloaded your truck, it was allowing for a little bit more... Anyways, thanks for the share of your creation! It is indeed a great truck

Personally I think your truck is impressive, but as SavTec's advertising agent (and the writer for the ad) I cannot let this attack go unpunished!
