Geographic Earth Plus

Description
Earth map with some exaggerated geographic features.
MOUNTAIN RANGES ARE IMPASSABLE for long swathes of area. Iberia is COMPLETELY cut off from mainland Europe by the Pyrenees. Italy is cut off by the Alps. The Caucus mountains also separate Europe and the Middle East. India is cordoned off by the Himalayas and is further shielded from SouthEast Asia by, you guessed it, more mountains! The Americas have a laughably long wall of mountains, starting with the Rockies which stretch from Alaska down to Arizona and the Andes mountains which stretch from Peru all the way to the southern tip of Chile.
But not all movement is a hassle in this world!

MAJOR RIVERS ARE NAVIGABLE by boat, such as the Amazon, Mississippi, and Kongo rivers! The Panama and Suez canals are also coast tiles, so there's no need to get frustrated when the AI inevitably fails to settle the perfect canal city. The Straight of Malacca and Bosphorous Straight are also wide open and ready for passage.

ISLANDS ARE ENLARGED and given lots of resources in order to make them fairly useful. Islands that would normally have been too small to appear on the map have been promoted to the rank of single-tile islands. This is most notable in the Southern Pacific ocean, which is now readily inhabitable along with the Azores in the Atlantic and the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. There are plenty of atolls and oceans resources placed around these islands to make them viable spots for city settlements. Get along and colonize the waves!

STRATEGIC RESOURCES ARE LOCALIZED in several purposefully-placed, isolated bunches throughout the map. Refer to the image here on the workshop page to get an idea of where they generally are. These resources can be quite far from eachother, so keep in mind that you may face hardship in different stages of the game. For instance, if you're not near coal when you unlock the tech, you won't be able to build factories until you conquer new lands or build relations with your neighbors and trade for what you need. This is my best attempt to simulate the Rise and Fall style of play that Civ 6 has (which, in my opinion, is fairly neat).
Regions that lack strategic resources usually make up for their losses in luxury resources. Africa seriously lacks coal and oil, so they'll have trouble modernizing, but they have a whole lot of luxury goods to keep them happy while steam power advances the rest of the world along.

63 NATURAL WONDERS are placed throughout the world. They're not all unique of course (though, just by chance, Uluru and Cerro de Potosi are one-of-a-kind on this map). The natural wonder of Krakatoa, for example, stands in for several different volcanoes, including Santorini in Greece and Mt. St. Helen in Washington, US as well as just the actual Krakatoa. These natural wonders are spread out pretty evenly across the world, even in the arctic and antarctic regions, so no single area should become too much more overpowered than any other area, since everyone has these natural wonders. This also gives some incentive to explore, since you'll get a happiness boost for all of the natural wonders you find- and there's a lot of them out there to find!

I personally recommend playing this map with the Community Overhaul Patch (Vox Populi) for better balance, though it is by no means a requirement.
Install it here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/forums/community-patch-project.497/

v_2 update!
-Minor changes in the map layout and resource redistribution. Most notably Japan was made bigger and the North island was split off by a tile of coast.
-You may also notice some new images here on the workshop page! All images except for the original frontpage image are updated to reflect v_2.
Thanks for all the support you folks are giving my little old map. This was my first workshop upload and this surge in popularity was quite unexpected but very appreciated!
I do not anticipate any more updates to this map mod in the future (since, after all, it's a map). If you've subscribed and started a playthrough with the older version of this map, then you do not need to update (though it probably won't change anything even if you do).

Like my art? I used the 3D text from the program Paint 3D. It is a Windows 10 exclusive program, but as long as you have Windows 10, it's free and is probably built-in to your computer just like Character Map or Notepad.

Bye friendos!

Super cute pictures for the mod page, currently trying it out and it seems very promising.

I'm really appreciating the navigable waterways so far!

Steam doesn't work well with workshop maps. You have to move it from the Mods folder to the Maps folder in My Documents.

I can't find the map in the maps list. Where is it located? I don't see the "Custom Game" option after clicking on mods btw

I have never seen such a mod presentation, it is like an advertising for a"mod product" !
I have to recognise that it is an efficient mean to promote this map ! ;)

@MagoosGaloos @Kaotic Kanine , This is my first map, so I can't do too much debugging because I just don't have the experience. I believe that bug (you're subscribed to mod, you enable the mod in the mod list, but no map shows up) is roughly caused by having too many mods downloaded or you subscribed to too many too quickly or something like that. As a potential fix, you can download the mod again through this site: {LINK REMOVED} (steamworkshop . download or some other steam workshop direct-download site) then it MIGHT fix your problem.

@Bobson this shouldn't have any conflicts with any other mods. You can certainly play ynaemp 43 civs, BUT they won't all have TSL in the scenario. If you really really want to have TSL for all your civs, then the best thing I can suggest is that you spawn all of the civs you want in game and then handplace their cities in their real-world locations using the IGE mod. I've done a couple playthroughs like that. It's very tedious to do, but they're fun games.

Basically I have no idea how to make a TSL with more than 22 civs.

A few too many mountains and natural wonders for my taste but apart from that it's great.
