Description
Version 1.7

Requires both Hugslib and Animal gear to be loaded before this mod.
NOTE: You can run without Animal Gear, just disable the animal armor in apparel setting to keep your pawn from trying to wear it.

Why armour your insects you ask?
Well according to THE RIM these animals were genetically engineered for heavy work and combat, so lets make that happen for your colony.

Why armour an untrained Insect?
Added Armour to Megaspider Megascarab and Spelopede. Painted gold adorns the mandibles and spikes.
Craft the armor at a bench after researching plate armor.
To equip it, place it in a valid stockpile that your insect can get to.
Make sure that the armor is enabled in your insects assigned apparel settings.
Added advanced training and caravaning abilities to Spelopede.
Added caravaning abilities to Megaspider.
Added advanced training to Megascarab.

Why keep spiders if they don't breed?
Addded reproduction and egg laying.
Insects lay 1 to 3 eggs every 10 days for Megaspider, 8 for Spelopede, and 6 for Megascarab.
Eggs process in that same amount of time respectively.

Megaspiders adult sebaceous glands now milkable for a small amount of Insect Jelly.
Spelopede adult sebaceous glands now milkable for a small amount of Honeydew.
Honeydew is a mild drug with similar effects to coffee. Gives a slight increase in energy without being addictive, lasts about 3 hours like coffee.
All insects can be assisted in the ecdysis of their cuticles.
Produces insect armor chunks every five days which can be smelted into metals, 2 steel and 1 plasteel.

Added three new insect items acquired from butchering: Megaspider Skull, Spelopede Skull, and Megascarab Shell.

Use the insect armour and items from butchering to create your own armor and war helmets. Armor is better than plate but not as good as powered.

Use Eggs, insect Jelly, and insect items to build a makeshift insect Hive. Makeshift Hives produce Insect Jelly, RG and B Glow PODS, and before the adult insects leave the hive they lay eggs, spawning more insects over time. Hives have a few month lifespan.

Use Insect Items, stone, and gold to create an extra large scuplture the size of a truck. Four new grand insect scupltures added to the pool.

Is there still a remote chance of this getting updated for RimWorld 1.4 before 1.5 becomes too popular?

I miss this Mod.

I will take a peek at this stuff this week. Thanks all :)

That is correct, OP.

The Vanilla Factions Insects Expanded Mod is here: https://www.steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2149755445 .

Your inferior competition is here: https://www.steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2558673720 .

The latter Mod adds full suport for breeding VFEI Insects, but has none of your improvements or advanced changes. I would like to see that either incorporated by a Patch or have you add that in yourself.

As for Kwamas (as Veronicafoxx brought up), that's impossible with their canonical cycle. A Kwama Queen produces baby Kwamas that grow up into different castes, like the VFEI Insect Queen does.
VeronicaFoxx 5 Feb, 2023 @ 8:36am
The only thing that I would really be after is cross-compatibility with VFE Insects, since I just started using that mod, and the Alpha Animals Black Hive insects. Possibly also Morrowrim - Kwamas. Some of the Black Hive insects don't breed, and the kwamas don't at all, but they also have an odd life cycle with the scribs turning into multiple adult forms per lore (but not in game). That last might be something too complicated to manage in this. The Black Hive from Alpha Animals is enough for me in that regard. I don't know all that much about VFE Insectoids yet, but knowing that I could tame and breed them via this mod would be amazing! I've tried taming a few, like the gigalocust, that immediately untamed and reverted to their hive. Doing whatever it was you did for the bugs for this mod to make them neutral after downing would be perfect.

TurtleShroom - From taking a quick peek through the comments ;) you would like:

You want me to make sure that the VFE Insects breed with Eggs. The Patch would remove the breeding system from the other Mod entirely and replace it, in whole cloth, with yours. Everything else can be added without interfering with it, I think.

You want this Mod's features and his combined, with yours taking precedence when they overlap. I miss my Adamantium, I miss my eggs, I miss my Makeshift Hives... but I love Taming the VFE Insects...

TurtleShroom - Cross check it for what in VFIE exactly? And what does the "Insectoid Improvements Mod" cover?

I ask because I remember you talking about these two other mods in the past at least once, so I want to understand what you're looking for from each of them is all.

I need to refresh myself with everything before I can take a dive in so let me know.

VeronicaFoxx - I still can't remember why I didn't update it to 1.4 so it may run fine as you state. Is their anything you dislike or wish was different etc? Since i'll be in it soon may as well ask :)
TurtleShroom 4 Feb, 2023 @ 8:41pm
Please consider cross-checking it with the Vanilla Factions Insectoids Expanded Mod when you finish that. The Insectoid Improvements Mod covers them, but like I said a long time ago, yours is better than theirs in every conceivable way.
TheGoofyOne  [author] 4 Feb, 2023 @ 4:59pm
OK. i'll remove all other mods and see what this needs to be updated to 1.4 then.
