Description
Purpose
A small (Large grid) vanilla shuttle with both hydrogen and atmospheric thrusters and 5 small cargo containers, for moving cargo into orbit or in space before the components for ion thrusters are available. Cargo runs can be automated with the SAM or PAM scripts. The ship also has a compact but livable interior, and an ore detector for asteroid surveying.

Features
Tools, Scripts & Weapons:
2 interior turrets
SAM autopilot script - automated docking and/or cargo runs
PAM autopilot script - automated cargo runs
Fancy Status Displays script - for monitoring cargo & hydrogen fill level and battery power.
Blargmode's ascent cruise control - for escaping planetary gravity far more efficiently

Power:
6 batteries
1 hydrogen engine
4 hydrogen generators
2 Large hydrogen tanks
2 Small hydrogen tanks

Movement & Control:
2 Gyroscopes
28 small hydrogen thrusters
10 small atmospheric thrusters
1 Control Seat
1 remote control

Cargo Space
5 small cargo containers

Miscellaneous:
1 gravity generator
some decorative blocks (not necessary for structural integrity of the ship)
1 Repair Projector

Has an empty mass of 318806 kg

All Programmable blocks are turned off in this blueprint and all toolbars are the same from the cockpit or remote control.

This blueprint includes a merge block attached to the front of the ship, for easier printing. However once printed you will have to remove the merge block to access the front Door, although the interior is still accessible via the Port and Starboard doors.

Emergency Landing Procedure
If you find yourself with not enough thrust to land safely on a planet, whether from damage, low power or low hydrogen, follow the emergency landing procedure listed below, please ensure you have at least 5 canvas in each parachute hatch:
  • Turn Landing Gear Autolock on - Toolbar 3, button 4
  • Open Parachute Hatches - Toolbar 6, Button 4
  • The ship will slowly descend, but will still be nose-down, due to the parachute hatch positioning.
  • To align the ship with the landing site, either use the PAM auto-align feature - Toolbar 3, Button 5
  • OR if the landing side terrain is not relatively flat, manually align with the gyroscopes, as long as they are both functional, there will be enough power to do this, even with a full cargo.
  • Landing Gear will lock on contact with the ground, activate repair projector for damage assessment - Toolbar 6, button 5

Ok, so mods are ruled out.

Next thing to check: are you flying it with Atmo only, or with hydrogen and atmo thrusters working together?

I don't think it will fly as-is without using the hydorgen thrusters too.
The thrusters are supposed to cut down on the fuel cost rather than completely take over for the hydrogen thrusters.

I'm doing the official servers so I'm not able to use scripts or mods. Not sure if that changes anything. I had to put additional atmo thrusters around the front/middle of the ship to allow it to fly directly up.

Hi Frank,

I'm not sure what "front heavy" means in this context?
The centre of mass for the ship is a little forward, (I think its aligned with the front of the braking atmo thrusters), but that should not be a problem in a game where thruster force is applied through the centre of mass of the grid, and it should fly just fine with a full cargo, if a bit slow to gain altitude. It has been a while since I tested it, but I make sure that each ship with an "AC" in the designation should be able to fly with cargo full of steel plate (the heaviest component) in Earthlike or Alien gravity.

I have seen a few mods that do change this, for example, once where thrust is applied from the actual thruster position instead of centre of mass, are you perhaps using something like that?

Ship is a little front heavy when trying to fly in earth-like.

Hi Frank,

Nope, it definitely won't fit the small ship printer, but it is still "printable" with a larger welder wall and a few more pistons.
Frank 4 Nov, 2024 @ 12:52pm
I'm guessing you can't use the ship printer for this bad boy

You're also welcome to upload a modified version if you like (but please link the original)

Thanks, yeah unfortunately some time IRL takes priority over ISL.

Maybe 2023 is the year for SE though (I hope!)

Okay. Thank you for the reply, and I understand. Yesterday was the first time I'd even opened the game in months, sometimes other stuff just takes priority. I hope you're doing well, and having fun.

Hi EmberStar,

Yes I've noticed that issue, but haven't taken the time to open it up and see where some could be squeezed in.
