Reynolds Harbour (Vanilla)

Description
INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Reynolds Harbour, this is my 5th map and managed to keep it vanilla. No back story for this map, just a fictional city location somewhere in North-America, Europe or wherever you like. I’m really happy with how it turned out and what I was able to accomplish within the vanilla constraints. Hopefully there isn’t too much gliching, as there are several features and areas of detailing where I pushed the game engine to its limits. While I’ve designed the map to work with vanilla rules, I would suggest the 81 tile mod and a first person camera mod, jump on a train or in a truck cab out in the fog and go for a ride across the map to take in the scenery.

GAME MECHANICS
Outside connections:
- 4 highway
- 4 railway
- 4 shipping
- 2 plane

All my intersections are hand drawn, which was a real challenge for me while still trying to keep it vanilla. There are some country roads heading towards edge of map, extra outside connections mod maybe useful for these, although they are already linked to the highways in other ways and don’t dead end.

I struggle with resources using the vanilla themes, I can’t bring myself to fill my maps with almost fluorescent yellow ground, so there is only minimal farmland for this reason, while ample ore resource is underneath the Redwood forest and oil is offshore. Plenty of forestry available too and still 20k trees available in the un-modded tree count.

Managing the water on this map was a nightmare, as you’ll see given the myriad water spawn points. Also the water really wants to push into the harbour from edge of map, so have done quite a bit too counter act that. That said, start square water is not really an issue, as I have very generously provided 480,000m3 water supply and 240,000m3 sewage capacity at the start square roundabout, along with 178MW electricity to give your new city a leg up. You will need the 81 tile mod to access the water supply, but you don't need to unlock the tiles, just have the mod enabled.

The hydro dam took hours of work, I suggest not going anywhere near it with move it or terrain tools. It doesn’t take much for it to leak like a sieve if one of the walls is moved or water level raised even the smallest amount. “Power Station v2 (MG)” is the only custom asset on the entire map and is completely optional, I only put it in to demonstrate how I would start detailing the dam.

In keeping with the vanilla-ness of the map, all my map making and photos were done using both the vanilla European theme and LUT. I really hope everyone enjoys the map, and especially those vanilla players out there.

I downloaded this map a while ago and just opened it this morning to start a new city. I haven't played on it yet, but this is a gorgeous map. I'm going to have to up my game for your map.

@wellington6012 I think you should drop those in any future maps. Makes people confused and uncertain as to if they can be safely deleted.

They are a component of the vanilla dam. They can be used as a prop, or a vanilla hack to do invisible power distribution.

Hi Angelhearth. Not sure what the problem is with the map editing, I was able to open a subscribed version in the editor and do some brief editing without issue. I get what is being said about the resources, rightly or wrongly, it was an active decision to use the vanilla theme, which the colouring looks terrible, farmland in particular almost fluro green. In hindsight maybe the custom theme would have been better, even a simple theme based on the vanilla, but turn off the oil and farm colouring so they could be placed better. This was a while ago and I did take onboard similar feedback for future maps.

The problem with this beautiful map is that no thought seems to have been placed on it's playability. I agree with @Marvallo in what he writes. In addition there are a few gravel paths and bridge pillars that still hangs around after what seems to be a change in the rail lines. I have tried playing it several times, but it all ends up with me wanting to change things in the map editor. Sadly that's impossible because the map crashes when, or shortly after, you open the map in the editor. If anyone has found out why it crashes the map editor, please reply.

Started this map recently and it is an absolute gem of a design. So much thought and attention to detail put in. Which is why it is extremely puzzling and disappointing to see such a lackluster layout for the natural resources. ZERO farmland? And you made all of the water oil so I have no option but to offshore drill or make "manmade" islands to build oil industry. Then you kind of just put a ton of ore in the mountains, but not in manner that organically fits the mountainside. Very much vanilla (which was the point I guess) and not at all ideal for industrial play. Almost quit and unsubscribed once I saw the natural resource layout, but will see it through (without agriculture...). Understand if you think "yellow ground" is ugly, but even a small section would have been better than ZERO FARMLAND. Will have to look into a mod that can adjust resources to make this map actually viable for industry.

Thanks Wellington, I didnt realy understood the description about the dam, thank you for your answer. But as said, even though its an old map its one of the best in the Workshop.

Hi DerKaiser. This was over 3 years ago I built this, but if I recall, the dam doesn't produce any power, unless you include a couple of workshop substations listed in the description. I think the power comes from a wind farm? You also might need the unlock 81 tiles mod if any of the power production is outside the 25 tiles. You won't need to activate it and unlock all the tiles, just have the mod installed is enough.

First of all, its a fcking beautiful Map. Period.
But I have a quick question for you @wellington6012, or anyone else who probably know the answer, the ''dam-connection'' isnt transfering any Power. It is connected, and hooked up to my village, but I cant get ANY Power.
