The MCL-220 "Atlas" Modular Cargo Lifter
IFF ID: (MCL-220)

The MCL-220 "Atlas" Modular Cargo Lifter is a large generalist aerospace transport primarily intended for shuttling cargo from surface to low orbit and back. The central feature of the Atlas, and reason for its unique shape, is its hardpoint for mounting Modular Freight System (MFS) compatible cargo modules. Designed specifically for use with the Atlas, the MFS Cargo Pod - Large carries six large cargo containers, landing gear, and its own parachute system. Aside from offsetting the weight of the cargo pod during an emergency situation, this allows the pod to be air-dropped from high altitude if desired. The Atlas itself contains berthing for up to four crew, 12 cryo tubes, substantial dedicated storage, a full medical suite, and passenger seating for 12.

Initial development of the Atlas was rocky, requiring numerous and significant redesigns before settling on a final configuration. The original concept called for a significantly larger H-shaped vehicle, equipped with two MFS hardpoints. However, the modular design of the Atlas meant that the vast majority of its lower volume could not be dedicated to lifting engines as with other more traditional transports. This caused the Atlas to grow horizontally to unreasonable proportions as more and more engines were needed. It was finally decided to trim the aircraft in half, which greatly simplified the design.

The Atlas is equipped with multiple means of generating power, depending on the austerity of its operating location. Its hydrogen engine banks are more than capable of meeting the needs of all primary flight systems other than recharging the twin jump drive cores. This is supplemented by substantial battery capacity which can be recharged while idle, as well as a set of small reactors if uranium fuel is available. Limited O2/H2 generation is available to assist with refueling although it is wholly incapable of meeting the vehicle's full needs while in-flight. Lastly, the Atlas is equipped with an ascent control computer, allowing for efficient management of fuel while climbing out of gravity wells.

Author's Note:
This ships has subgrids that consist only of individual connector blocks attached to the end of the docking pistons. This ship can still be easily built via projector.

Added note to the updates to clarify.

Most recently? Since the interior change, I updated whip's autodoor script to its current version, changed some names in the menus (the stuff related to the aft MCF hardpoint) to be consistent with my other stuff, and moved some toolbar items around in the pilot seat so the cruise control settings are easily acessible. Button 2 is now Ascent Control run (no argument) and Ascent Control run (swap).

would it be possible to get the pre-warfare dlc version?

So, I've started becoming active again, starting with updating everything to modern spec :) I think I'm gonna take a shot at something like what you're talking about. I have a sort of all-in one minibase that'll be the first thing I put out for now, but then yeah I think a modular base might be a good next direction to go in.

Hey Cano - You still active on SE and making stuff?
If so, I was wondering if you ever considered making any crew pods. Say, a command pod (I imagine open interior, couple of command cockpits with a bunch of lcd's on the walls, sleeping/living quarters pod, maybe an 'automated functions' pod where all the programming blocks could be that power the command pod/crew lcd's (oxy levels, etc), a life support pod, etc..
That way one could set them up with even more pods than what you have and make a mobile station for longer ops away from one's main base, all by using your pod/module system. (and not require the Atlas (or your other pod-friendly craft) to even be on-site..
I really enjoy your items, sadly I noticed I'm the last to post on them, 2 years ago - Really brilliant design and even though "dated" only by age, still 100% usable.

Ok, will give it a try then :) Thanks for the prompt response!
