Mattock

Description
Hi there and welcome to my first mod for medieval engineers. This is something I have wanted in the game for ages, I just never took the leap of learning how to mod for the game.

After taking a look at white Raven's Soil Grader Mod I finally decided to have a go. Thanks to Mirzipan's scripts core mod and inspiration from Equinox's Rail Asset Mod I was able to do it! So without further delay...

You now have a new tool in your inventory, introducing the Mattock! The mattock is for digging in the soil so you are able to get rid of all the vegetation/sod/grass (for the bigger bushes in the forest you might still need your shovel!).

Some uses for your new Mattock include but are not restricted to:
- Make some roads or paths for your village/leading up to your house
- Clear an area for your camp sight
- Clear the grass around your buildings
- Clear the area of sod in the courtyards that are inside your buildings

Known Issues:
-Sometimes the tool gets stuck in my hand in combat mode so that I can't select another hand item. I don't know what is causing this or how to fix it. I have found two workarounds. Go into 3rd person view and start swinging it around and then stop and you get back into non combat mode. I can then proceed to change the item in my hand. The other is to save your progress in game and then come back in.
- I have HUD icons for the mattocks but they don't seem to appear with the Copper or Steel versions of the Mattock.
- I have also created HUD's icon's for "you don't have permission" and "can't remove soil here" but they don't seem to work/appear. I don't know if this is a restriction of Mirzipan's script or if I have done something wrong in my .sbc file.

Clay voxels too should be changed with mattock.

Will you be updating to 0.7.4 soon?

Not playing Medieval Engineers at moment. Only just saw comment today. Will try to replicate and fix errors within couple of weeks

I crafted the steel mattock and it didn't at first show up in the forge but then i exited and reentered it and then i could pick it up (but it didn't have an icon like you said) Then i took it and tried to equip it and then the game crashes and now I can't join my friends server because I crash before I even come into the game. You can look in my mod collection for "0.7 compatible" if you think another mod is messing with yours. One other wierd thing is that i created the steel mattock with bronze ingots.

Excellent tool, and much needed. Thanks for doing this.

Brilliant mod, does exactly what it says on the tin. Great for creating paths and roads with the proper texture. Shovel is needed sometimes to get rid of ferns and such, highly recommended mod.

@Charis81 about combat mod bug, I found similar bug in Equin'x rail mode when using hammer to build rails or adjust level of voxels, if it same bug then it related to that situation: if you swing your tool in air it have combat mode, if you use tool on voxels this use tool action, but there are case where you looking at voxel and near the edge between combat mode and tool mode, and if during that time you move camera or character and tool at the end of swing will not hit voxel, it will stuck .

I have to agree. The ability to use it as an axe would be most fitting. Since a mattock has such a short cutting edge though, giving it the speed of a stone axe would make the most sense. Having a shovel and axe in one tool is what I expected, not just a sod-buster. It's neat, but not something I need.

well, as the tool has a axe head too, why not make it able to cut trees? :D

what about a pickaxe, to mine and tree cutting too :D

Hi Reigdaer. Sorry it wasn't quite what you were looking for. What more were you thinking it could do? What else would you like it to do?

I have updated the description which I hope is a little clearer.

The list is just ideas of what you might need it for. I also use it for houses/buildings without floors. I use it to clear away the grass.
