House for a Hero (V3.5)

Description
*** VERSON 4 NOW LIVE ***

Click here to go to v4.

Version 4 of this mod is now uploaded as a seperate mod. I wanted to make sure users of this version didn't have their equipment deleted by another update.
If you want to switch to version 4, I suggest moving any items you want to keep from the house in version 3.5 to another location (ie: Breezehome), unsubscribe from this version then subscribe to version 4 and reload your game. You will most likely have to go though the starting quest stages again since it's effectively a new mod as far as Steam is concerned.
Version 4 includes the inclusion of spouse support, the option to get the broken trophy room wall repaired after the quest and the other trophies now need to be built by the player by collecting or crafting the necessary elements to build each trophy. Dokhaja the merchant now has a slightly more dynamic AI and spends part of his time in the house including some meal times and sleeping taking ownership of what was to be the House Karl's bedroom. Also, Dokhaja and your spouse (should you move one into Dragonborn Cottage) will be found socialising with the locals in the Bannered Mare for part of their evening before retiring to bed.

MOD DESCRIPTION

Dragonborn Cottage is a new player house situated within the walls of Whiterun City in the Plains District on the normally vacant space near the south wall between Olava's House and Ysolda's House. It is awarded to the player as a grander alternative to Breezehome by Jarl Balgruuf the Greater in recognition of their heroic deeds across Skyrim.

Once the player has killed Mirmulnir at Western Watchtower and reached at least level 30 the player will notice the house being built in stages over about a week of game time. Once the house is built a courier will be dispatched to deliver the deed of ownership and house key to the player the next time they arrive in a village or city.

Aside from the usual crafting areas you would expect in a player house, there are also some useful features such as a large armoury, a customisable shrine and a live-in merchant.

MOD REQUIREMENTS

This mod only requires virgin Skyrim to run (including updates). No other official DLC is required. This house is completely separate from Breezehome so no Breezehome mods should be affected by it. However, the house exterior may clash with other Whiterun City mods that add extra features to Whiterun such as more trees or buildings that may well be located in the same place as the Dragonborn Cottage exterior.

Feed back, constructive criticism and advice always welcome.

QUEST STAGES:
In this update, I've given the quest a big over-haul and added some extra elements. If you're not feeling enclined to just role play the house build and would rather just get to the moving in stage, follow these steps for a quick (in real time) run though the house build part of the quest and get a visit from the courier as soon as possible)

1) First, your character will need to have reached at least level 30 and have killed Mirmulnir at the Western Watchtown during the 'Dragon Rising' quest.
2) Travel to a tavern in any town or city other than Whiterun and head inside. Once inside, wait for 24 hours.
3) Step outside of the tavern and wait another 24 hours.
4) Step back inside the tavern and wait for three 24 hour periods.
5) Step back outside the tavern and wait for a final 24 hour period.
6) Step inside the tavern then step back outside (no wait this time).
7) Wait for the courier to run up to you and give you a letter. Note that this may take a little longer in some locations than others.
8) Once the courier has handed you the letter you can travel to Whiterun City. If you read the deed as instructed by the quest and have 'House for a Hero' set as one of your active quests, a quest marker will help direct you to the location of the house.

g_ma_2004 Wow. That's harsh. Sorry to hear that. I've no idea why that would happen. I did have an instance of not setting the Armoury to be a no-reset zone in a very early draft of this mod but that was fixed years ago. No one else has reported that since. Sounds like a mod clash issue. I'd suggest either loading a earlier saved game or alternatively, you can use console commands to add the items to your inventory and place them back where you got them. If you go to the Skyrim Wiki page there are lists of the id codes for every item from enchanted weapons or armour you may have found as loot to unique objects you may have obtain in quest lines. It will take a while but at least you'll have them back. I'd probably recommend switching to V4 of this mod though just to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Cheers mate, just subscribed to your Frostbrook farm mod, very impressive :-)

You're welcome. FYI, you should really use v4 of this mod instead. It's got more features and bug fixes in it. Also, there's my Frostbrook Farm mod which has way more to offer in space, storage and emersion options. The only downsides is there isn't a quest line attached to it like with House for a Hero and it requires Heathfire DLC since it enables you to move your adopted childern in whereas House for a Hero only lets you move your spouse in.

thank you, the disable command worked fine :-)

That tree must be from another mod because there's not normally a tree there in the classic version (see the pics). The only way to remove it that I'm aware of is using console commands. I would recommend looking up the console command 'disable'. It's usually just a matter of going into console cammand mode, clicking on the item you want to remove then typing 'disable'. The item should then quickly fade out of existance. If you accidenly diable the wrong object, make sure you type 'enable' before you click on any other object as find the ID for a disable item is a bit of a hastle.

this mod did not remove the tree that orginally sits where the house is, is there a way to fix this?

alright

Loreknight Re Hearthfire version: checkout my Frostbrook Farm mod. I ended up building that instead of the Hearthfire version of Dragonborn Cottage. You don't exactly build it like Hearthfire homes but you purchase upgrades like default Skyrim homes and you get to build more trophies than in Hearthfire homes. Re alternative: you can own both. They are entirely independant of each other. You can buy Breezehome or not. You should also be able to have Breezehome mods and it not effect Dragonborn Cottage.
