Description
Spare starbases can now be used for mass food generation.

It is my hope that this mod is well balanced within the vanilla game. All mods I make are aimed at only improving the vanilla game.

Changes:
New starbase module: Hydroponic Array. This array generates 3 food at the cost of 1 energy. It can be built multiple times since it is a module. Unlocks with Hydroponic technology.

New starbase building: Hydroponic Processing Bay: This bay upgrades all hydroponic arrays to produce 2 more food, for a total of 5 food. Requires at least 1 Hydroponic Array in order to build. Also required Hydroponic Processing Technology.

New technology: Hydroponic Processing. This technology unlocks the Hydroponic Processing Bay.

NOTICE: This mod is not achievement compatible.

Change Log:
8-3-2023 - Reduced food amounts to better balance current vanilla gameplay. Original was designed for use in previous population mechanics.

That 10 food feels a little overpowered. Now just the maximum amount of starbases can supply your entire empire. I hope they cut it down again to maybe 5. Enough to make them worthwhile but not able to make farmer jobs irrelevant.
Maybe make it more in line with the description and give starbases a food upkeep cost that the hydrophonics bay will negate.

@Livnthedream, when the mod was created, the hydroponics bay gave very little food. vanilla has upped that to 10 food. Max with my mod should be 42 which can cover 50-75% of the food required for a single decent sized planet which is my intended goal.

I am aiming for it to be useful when needed, nut not OP or suitable as a total substitute for other food sources. I am totally fine with fiddling with numbers if people think its under or over powered.

With the update, how did you reflect the Hydroponics Bay changes? Notably the increase both in base and how it scales with tech?

Hydroponics Bays now produce 10 Food in the base game, so while I have loved this mod, it may no longer be really necessary.

I will be checking the state of this mod with the current game in the next few days and adjusting it to better reflect the game, updating it to reflect the version, or doing other changes as needed to make it a seamless modification to the game.

I will look into compatibility issues... they should be resolved as I update it for the current game state.

This mod is still compatible with 2.4. Due to changes to the launcher, I am having difficulty updating the mod to reflect this.

Great mod idea. As it was the Hydro starbase building was literally just something I slapped down when I wanted to fill space until I unlocked a useful building. Any chance you could increase the storage space of the starbase silo building from 2000 to 2500? I like my storage to always be a multiple of 5000 personally.
