Slower Eye Adapt

Description
This mod slows the change in lighting when you switch from looking at something bright to something dark. The HDR Eye Adapt keeps the total screen brightness close to constant, but means abrupt changes in where you are looking can lead to sudden large shifts in the brightness of what you are looking at. The settings for Eye Adapt, along with the other HDR settings are stored in the Imagespaces, which are somewhat like lighting and weather settings for the game. Before it was set to change by about 40% of the difference in lighting per frame (note: based on frames and not time), I divided all of those numbers by 10 to make a more gradual change in lighting.

Because Eye Adapt changes lighting per frame and not per second, if you are getting a high number of fps it can lead to startlingly abrupt changes. If you were being largely disturbed by the Eye Adapt, it may be partly because you were getting too many fps, odd as that sounds. Good ways to kill fps are with the Static Mesh Improvement Mod (1), the Skyrim HD texture pack (2) - a fan based extension of the high res texture pack, and increasing uGrids (3). If you need to increase fps a good way to do that is by going to MyDocuments/MyGames/Skyrim/Skyrimprefs.ini and increasing the iBlurDeferredShadowMask from 0 to 3 or 5, then decreasing shadow quality.

If you would like to fiddle with the Eye Adapt and other HDR settings, you can do so in game using the console. Open the console (press the `/~ key), type "php" to get the current HDR settings, then type "shp X X X X X X X X X" to set the HDR settings. The settings are: "Eye Adapt Strength, Eye Adapt Speed, Bloom Radius, Bloom Threshold, Luminance, Luminance, Sunlight Scale, Sky Scale". Note that the settings will reset when you leave the area, there is no good way to permanently set them.

If this mod doesn't work out for you, try my other mod, Disable Eye Adapt (4).

I was using an older adapter, but like the settings on this one much better. I'm photosensetive in RL and was having trouble with a fresh install on a new rig, maxed and modded meshes. It looks great but hurt. This takes the pain out of it, as well as dithering from torches in dark caverns.

It may be helpful to give a loading tip, that this mod has to be lower in load order than mods like Alternative Lighting (1-2), but above shadow fixers. Thanks for the work! :KneelingBow:

If you are changing what cell you are in (ie loading), Eye Adapt doesn't come into play. If you mean an open building, then this will make your eye adjust to the new brightness slower, same as everwhere else.

This mod works nice! Smooth visual transitions on this rig. Much appreciated ... and for your technical description. Great tip on FPS. Thank you, [BLC]Eulogos.

hmm, this is already possible with another mod. it's called realistic lighting. permanently: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7648
for those who like a little fiddling: the nexus version can be customized in a way like: vanilla-settings with no eye-adaption.
