Fix Ruler Missing In Action

Description
Did your first ruler vanish inexplicably after they lost their first election?
- No more!

Your initial ruler will now become a governor when they lose an election.

Check the Leader screen, the election details and your factions screen to confirm the fix is working and your ruler has not vanished into thin air.

Should be save game compatible, for as long as the initial ruler is still in office.
Ironman compatibility status questionable due to changes for a vanilla event chain (please leave a comment if you notice otherwise).

Future Development

This fix has been included in the vanilla game as of the Nemesis update (game version 3.0.1).
The mod is therefore no longer necessary (and won't be maintained by me from now on).
It is kept around for players of old versions.
You should remove the mod from your up-to-date playsets with the launcher, and if you only plan to play the newest game versions you should unsubscribe.
If it is kept active in new game versions, it could duplicate your initial ruler (if it would have vanished in an older game version).

Please do leave a like, if you enjoyed playing with the mod until now. Thank you!
And go ahead, check out my other creations, they're linked down below.

Details
This mod uses on_actions and is thus 100% compatible to every other mod out there.
It works by intercepting the game from getting rid of your original ruler by listening to the following action:
on_ruler_removed
Then it calls a custom event using three scripted_effects that execute the magic to keep your ruler alive.
They clone the ruler before the original one is deleted by the game.
But don't worry, the ruler will have all of its original memories implanted and retained!

Notes
When converting to a governor, the leader will keep all of its previous traits that are not vanilla.
So if you use a mod that adds ruler traits - the leader will keep them as a governor.
This is a "feature" of the vanilla game which I can only add exceptions to - such as all the vanilla traits, which are correctly "kept" as ruler traits (by removing them from the old leader and assigning them to the new leader correctly).
Any level-up traits that may apply to the governor as well (such as Stubborn, etc.) will be applied.
The same will be done for special traits like Brain Slugs, Erudite, Psychic, Cyborg, etc.

Thankfully game version 2.6 brought us a small update to the clone_leader effect, so we can now specify a class. Otherwise this mod wouldn't be possible like this.

@aemeric, @Tiasson and everybody else: I have updated the description to let you know that the mod is no longer necessary for games started in 3.0.1 or later.
The mod will be kept in its current state to enable players on older versions to keep using it.
If you don't plan on playing older versions, you should unsubscribe.
But if you do play on older versions from time to time, you should at least remove this mod from the playsets for newer versions (using the launcher).
If you don't, the initial ruler may get duplicated (happens if it would have been vanishing otherwise in older versions).

Thank you all for using this mod! It'd be great if you check out my other creations, and leave a like if you enjoyed playing with this one so far. :butterfly:

Have a great day!

@ aemeric: I can confirm that it works in vanilla 3.01, without this mod - so it´s not needed anymore

Nighthawk -- what's the word, you going to update this for 3.0.1?
Tiasson 9 Apr, 2021 @ 2:59am
My problems are fixed (i.e. hasn't ocurred in my last two games with this mod enabled.

(It seems Paradox makes the first leader a governor in patch 3.0 so this useful little mod might be redundant)

Interesting
