Grand Canyon by Doxs

Description
A true to scale 52,5km x 10,5km snapshot of the Grand Canyon.

Map Size is Megalomaniac and has a huge playable height difference of almost 2200 meters based on a real high resolution height map of the area.
For playability reasons I had to make the canyon deeper in some areas and raised the water level in others. This is due to a limitation in the game engine where water can only have one height and running rivers with height drop are impossible to model correctly (flowing water like Cities Skylines is needed).
For gameplay reasons I also smoothed out certain small spots where I placed industries or around roads in steep terrain to make the map more visually appealing.

I have manually placed 6 full industry chains for each city end product, a total of 204 industries and producers. I have also placed 23 cities. I have used relevant names based on real world positions for all cities and industries, if you are familiar with the area you are sure to recognize more then a few of them. All cities and industries have been placed carefully to enable a few easy starting positions and then harder and harder resource chains.
The advanced materials all require transport from one end of the map to the other for each production step. You will also be required to move the products up huge height differences of up to 2 kilometers from the bottom of the canyon to the top.
My recommendation is to begin very small, you simply do not have the money to build the infrastructure required for one of the advanced materials. Construction can quickly become very expensive.

Known issues:
1. Incorrect textures, I have simply not been able to replicate the look of the real Grand Canyon and settled for automatic texturing with manual texturing for some areas. Specifically I lack a good gray rock texture.
2. You must have this mod active when playing the map or it will all look like rock above 220 meters.
3. The earnings graph is broken, I have not found a way to clear it for a new player, the costs you see are from the map editor.
4. If you experience crashes on loading, make sure you have enough memory, just loading the map takes 8-10 gigabytes of available memory. Sometimes it has helped to close down other programs while loading the map.

Latest update:
-Major reduction in population and number of cities to reduce lag, added a few easy industry chains to the south side of the map to get the player started easier.

Very nice map, but don't use it with climate Mod. It will crash.

From main menu -> Free Game -> Play map in the top right corner of the window. Then select the grand canyon map. And yes, I agree, the user interface needs to be more clear, it is as if they deliberately tried to hide buttons and functions used by many players.

I can't play this map because I can't find where to load it on the game.

I have it solved.
I`m not sure what caused the problem.
I did as follows:
Renewed the industry.
Dropped more ships to on the line.
Fast forwarded till 1925 to have better vehicles to feed the ships.

Uff, that was tricky.

I think it is waiting for already delivered goods to reach its destination before sending more.
Unless I am wrong industries have a limited amount of products they can have en route, thus you need to speed up the delivery for them to send out more. Also make sure the destination can accept more, the city or industry will need to be able to accept the goods for the factory to produce them. Another issue I had once on complex routes was that one transfer had low capacity, then the factories would limit their output according to the part of my transport chain with the least output.

I got some trouble here with one Refinery. It refuse to produce oil. Getting crude oil, consume it, all fine. I have connected it further on to one Fuel refinery with no success.
