Relytor's Empire United 3.0.3

Description
A Unity system overhaul
It always bothered my that Unity was simply a resource produced by certain jobs. It didn't really represent the unity of your empire. I believed it was time for an overhaul.

Pop Unity Production
Each pop now produces a base amount of unity, depending on their ethics:
  • 0.5 Unity, if they have the same ethic as the empire's fanatic ethic
  • 0.3 Unity, if they have the same ethic as the empire's non-fanatic ethic
  • No Unity, if they neither share nor oppose the empire's ethos
  • -0.2 Unity, if they have the opposing ethic of the empire's non-fanatic ethic
  • -0.3 Unity, if they have the opposing ethic of the empire's fanatic ethic

Unity from Jobs
Jobs that originally produced Unity now double the base unity of the pop working the job, increases the unity from pops, and increases Governing Ethic Attraction on the planet. This represents the influential status they have in society. The exact amounts will depend on their ethics:
  • Has Governing Fanatic ethic: 1.0 base Unity, +x% pop Unity production, +x% governing ethics attraction
  • Has Governing regular ethic: 0.6 base Unity, +x% pop Unity production, +x% governing ethics attraction
  • No Governing nor opposing ethics: No base Unity, +x% pop Unity production
  • Opposing regular ethic: -0.4 base Unity, +x% pop Unity production, -2x% governing ethics attraction
  • Opposing fanatic ethic: -0.6 base Unity, +x% pop Unity production, -2x% governing ethics attraction
x = Vanilla Unity production for the job. i.e. High Priest in Vanilla = 5 Unity, in Empire United = +5% Unity from Pops and Governing Ethics Attraction
Robots in servitude will produce unity as if they were materialistic, but will never produce negative unity.

Notes
  • The Unity from Pops is always positive, because it will increase both positive and negative unity production
  • Criminals will always produce -1 Unity plus/minus their base unity
  • Pops without ethics, such as basic robots, will not produce any base Unity
  • Empires without ethics, i.e. Gestalt Consciousness, will produce Unity same as Vanilla, with the exception that Deviant drones will also now produce -1 Unity.
  • The average empire will experience very similar Unity generation to Vanilla. Those with a Fanatic Ethic will tend to make a bit more if they keep their people following governing ethics.
  • Taking planets with pops that have opposing ethics will cause a big hit to Unity generation. This helps slow empire sprawl, and makes sure you only take those planets that aren't going to hurt too much.
  • If your Unity pool goes negative, your empire will experience greatly reduced stability on all planets, negative governing ethics attraction, as well as reduced Influence generation.

Compatibility
The following Vanilla files were overwritten
  • common/pop_categories/00_social_classes.txt: Ruler, Specialist, and Worker were overwritten to produce the base unity
  • common/pop_jobs/00_other_jobs.txt: criminal job was changed
  • common/pop_jobs/01_ruler_jobs.txt: all jobs producing Unity were changed
  • common/pop_jobs/02_specialist_jobs.txt: all jobs producing Unity were changed
  • common/pop_jobs/03_worker_jobs.txt: all jobs producing Unity were changed
Any mod that changes vanilla jobs or social classes will require a compatibility patch.
Any mod that adds new jobs that produce unity won't be changed to the new mechanics, but will simply produce flat unity, unless a compatibility patch is made.
Any mod that adds new social classes, the pops of the new social classes won't produce any base Unity, without a compatibility patch.
Compatibility Patches
Ethics and Civics Alternative

Future Plans
  • Sub-mod:Tradition overhaul tying traditions and ascension perks more strongly with ethics, factions, and unity
  • Sub-mod: Crime and Criminal Syndicate overhaul, tying crime, rebel activity, criminal jobs, and unity.

Did this ever get integrated?

I am integrating this into one of my other new mods, so I will be updating this. But it will most likely be overhauled or possibly removed with the new re-work

Guessing with the upcoming Unity re-work that this mod is at least on hold.

You gonna update this gem at some point?
Bruorton 30 Jun, 2021 @ 8:22am
Hi Relytor, do you have any plans to update this mod? I really love it and hope you will.

It not only made Unity work the way I always thought it should, I really appreciated the possibility of negative Unity if you have "rebellious" or criminal pops, which is only logical!

I'm a little confused about the title (suggesting it is compatible with 3.0.3) despite it still showing as only updated to 2.7. In any case, I suspect the Unity production levels would need to be rebalanced for 3.0's lower pop counts to be truly compatible.

I hope you find some time to work on this -- or let us know if something about 3.0 makes it too big a task for you to tackle right now. Thanks!

I cant seem to get the mod to work, my rulers have the modifier to unity production but none of my pops, including rulers, actually have the base production

The venerate the saints edict is borderline useless with this mod. The 20% increase in output does not apply to the unity multiplier of priests so all they get is some society research.

I made a patch for myself that adds 0.4 unity to all priests while the edict is in effect (on top of the 20% multiplier), which seems pretty fair.

Also, is it intentional that slaves don't provide any unity at all (but also don't subtract it)?

This way the penalty for opposing ethics can be skipped quite easily by enslaving other species.

Even Main species slaves would tend to subtract unity because slaves have high egalitarian attraction.
