The vanilla game is a little economically unrealistic, so this attempts to fix that. Some things were not made completely realistic for the purposes of balance. I did a lot of testing, but I am not perfect, so please let me know if you find any bugs or balance issues. Also, if you have any requests, feel free to ask me and, if it wouldn't detract too much from challenge or fun-factor, I'll do my best to incorporate them into the game.

If you like this mod, please check out my other mods and give me feedback. Thanks!

There have been many small changes to the game, but here are the major ones:

AS OF LATEST VERSION:
+Innovation
+Equal Pay Law dilemma
*Flat Tax, Income Tax, and Corporation Tax increase Unemployment
*Road Building Increases Car Usage less
*Speed Cameras have an exponential effect on Motorist opinion
+Affirmative Action
+Enterprise Investment Scheme, State Health Service, Science Funding, Space Program, Private Healthcare, Corporation Tax, Inheritance Tax, Pollution Controls, and Education all affect Innovation
-No link between GDP and CO2 Emmisions
*Reduced effect of GDP on Tobacco Usage, Alcohol Consumption, and Immigration
*Private Healthcare combats Drug Addiction better
*Cyber Warfare doesn't decrease GDP as much
-No link between GDP and Obesity
*Private Pensions and Private Housing increase Equality
-No link between GDP and Environment
-No link between Hybrid Cars Initiative and Car Usage
*Legalizing drugs and prostitution reduces crime
*High Unemployment reduces Wages
*Reducing restrictions on handguns decreases Violent Crime and vice versa.
*Earnings are dependent upon other earnings

FULL CHANGELOG:

v2.1:
+Added Equal Pay Law dilemma.

v2.0:
*Flat Tax, Income Tax, and Corporation Tax now increase unemployment.

v1.9:
+Road Building once again increases Car Usage, but less than before
*Speed Cameras now have an exponential effect on Motorist opinion (as opposed to linear)

v1.8:
+Added Affirmative Action
-Broke the link between Road Building and Car Usage. More roads doesn't necessarily mean more cars.
*Reverted Race Discrimination Act to normal

v1.7:
+Enterprise Investment Scheme now affects innovation
-Removed the Libertarian Party (It didn't crash the game, but it didn't work either.)
*Fixed a bug where high Education yielded an increase in Racial Tension.
*Lessened the effect of State Health Service on Innovation (I might remove this altogether in the future, but I'd like to see how it works like this before I remove it.)

v1.6:
+Added the Libertarian Party (I've tested this but I'm unsure if it will work. I'll remove it if it causes problems.)
+Co2 Emissions now affect The Environment
-Broke the link between GDP and Co2 Emissions; GDP increases car usage which increases Co2 emissions already, and a high GDP might come about as a result of environmentally-friendly businesses, so this link didn't make sense.
*Reduced GDP's effect on Tobacco Usage
*Reduced GDP's effect on Alcohol Consumption
*Increased the reduction of Private Healthcare on Drug Addiction
*Reduced GDP's effect on Immigration

v1.5:
+Re-added the link between GDP and Cyber Warfare, but it's less intense than it was before.
+Science Funding and the Space Program now increase innovation.
+New icon for Innovation!
-Broke the link between GDP and Obesity.
*State Health Service reduction of innovation is now less intense.
*Private Healthcare increase of innovation is now less intense.
*Reduced inertia for education to affect innovation.
*Fixed Corporation Tax's reduction of innovation; cancelling corporation tax is now better for innovation than simply lowering it to a certain level.

v1.2:
-Cyber Warfare is no longer linked to a high GDP (I have plans to instead link it with bad Foreign Relations).
*Private Pensions and Private Housing now slightly increase equality. However, they don't increase equality as much as they reduce equality in the vanilla game. i.e. I didn't simply flip the equations.

v1.1:
*Innovation is now not as harsh on GDP. Changed from a worst effect of -70% and best effect of +30% to a worst effect of -40% and best efftect of +60%.

v1.0:
+Added Innovation (A blue icon in Economy).
-Broke the link between GDP and the environment.
-Broke the link between the Hybrid Cars Initiative and Car Usage.
*Inheritance Tax and Corporation Tax can greatly reduce innovation, though Corporation Tax below 5% will not reduce Innovation.
*Small Business Grants and some other things (such as private industry) can increase innovation.
*Legalizing drugs now reduces crime. Decrease in crime is directly proportional to the increase in legal drug consumption.
*Legalizing prostitution now slightly reduces crime.
*Pollution Controls still help the environment, but reduce innovation.
*General Strike is not as harmful to GDP.
*Private industries are generally more effective than state-run services.
*Earnings are now dependant on other earnings (this is not trickle-down economics).
*Racial Discrimination Act now increases Racial Tension instead of reducing it (All other aspects are the same).
*High Unemployment now reduces wages.
*Reducing restrictions on handguns now decreases Violent Crime and increasing restrictions increases Violent Crime.

FUTURE PLANS:
*Further integrate innovation.

That's all I can think of for now. Enjoy! :)

P.S. I will no longer respond to any complaints about the changes I made to Handgun Laws. The gun control debate is so old that I simply won't have it anymore. I will not change this aspect of the mod because, based on statistics, I believe the changes I have made are economically realistic. Please find something else about the mod that you think I should change, add, or remove. Thank you.

Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Vegas, New York City, etc. must all have low gun violence. Oh, wait.

I think that you need to suppress "no link between GDP and CO2 emission because GDP is the production factor and more production mean more pollution in our physical world ;)

Also, pretty much everything about this mod is wrong. Economics may be theoretical, but there is a lot we know from real world application and experience and this mod gets all of it wrong.

@PamperedDuchess is literally just laying out some of the most well understood facts of economics. I love this game and I love when people help out in the comments section to help modders with information, but calling people commies only shows how butt hurt you actually are, @Rebelscum86 . Chill, read up on econ, and enjoy the game :)

Rewroted a debunk of @PamperedDuchess many times but due to character limits I put it in a pastebin.

6. Low corporate, inheritance, capital gains, and other high-wage tax structures actually contribute to unemployment. Rich people making more money means they want more; thus, the first thing they cut is benefits, then they cut labor. Contrary to Polly01's assertion, automation and tariffs also increase unemployment.

I think that's about it? If happen by while I'm thinking about it again, I'll let you know. Making some decent strides with this one. Hopefully, you understand that my input is meant as constructive criticism and not random trolling. Keep up the good work.

4. Inheritance has NOTHING to do with innovation. It's basically a legislation meant to combat the financial feudalism so prevalent in capitalist societies. Coporate taxes might have an impact on innovation, but I gather less than some might claim. What really drives innovation is having a problem and the will to solve that problem.

5. State health programs actually do drive innovation. Well, public research funding does. In the last 30 years, the U.S. government has poured millions into pharmaceutical research and now we have several ways to combat HIV and AIDS, less invasive treatments for cancer, early detection capabilities for cancer and other ailments, and many other advances in medical science that are paid for by the taxpayers and then sold back to them for egregious profits.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:15pm
3. Private housing does NOT increase equality. A case can be made that private pensions do, but they have to be regulated. Our companies here in the U.S. moved to a 401K model, but that's basically gambling on Wall Street and many people lost a lot of retirement savings in the 2008 debacle. On the housing front, the U.S. has been divesting from public housing since the Nixon Administration (early 1970s) and it has had a massive impact. Homelessness is through the roof and there's not a single county in any state in the country where one person working 40 hours a week can afford even a one-bedroom apartment. Not a single one.
-- Recommended fix: regulated private pensions would have an impact on equality, so keep it. Private housing DECREASES equality.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:15pm
2. Reduced restrictions on handguns/firearms does NOT decrease violent crime. It INCREASES it. Again, look at the United States: we have some of the most lax firearm laws in the industrialized world. What do we also have? 300 handguns per human being in the country. The highest number of firearm-related deaths and crimes per capita in the industrialized world. And... oh yea... a pandemic level of mass shootings. You want a model for how to incorporate gun laws in a realistic manner? Look at Japan or Australia, not us.
-- Recommended fix: look at Japan and base your model on that.
