Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Vegas, New York City, etc. must all have low gun violence. Oh, wait.
aubinpicard 26 Dec, 2021 @ 3:22pm
I think that you need to suppress "no link between GDP and CO2 emission because GDP is the production factor and more production mean more pollution in our physical world ;)
Daniel 26 Nov, 2020 @ 11:41pm
Also, pretty much everything about this mod is wrong. Economics may be theoretical, but there is a lot we know from real world application and experience and this mod gets all of it wrong.
Daniel 26 Nov, 2020 @ 11:37pm
@PamperedDuchess is literally just laying out some of the most well understood facts of economics. I love this game and I love when people help out in the comments section to help modders with information, but calling people commies only shows how butt hurt you actually are, @Rebelscum86 . Chill, read up on econ, and enjoy the game :)
Rebelscum86 16 Oct, 2020 @ 3:52pm
i subbed this mod due to all the butt hurt commies. Made me trust it is actually good.
olimcr 15 Aug, 2020 @ 11:56am
Rewroted a debunk of @PamperedDuchess many times but due to character limits I put it in a pastebin.

6. Low corporate, inheritance, capital gains, and other high-wage tax structures actually contribute to unemployment. Rich people making more money means they want more; thus, the first thing they cut is benefits, then they cut labor. Contrary to Polly01's assertion, automation and tariffs also increase unemployment.

I think that's about it? If happen by while I'm thinking about it again, I'll let you know. Making some decent strides with this one. Hopefully, you understand that my input is meant as constructive criticism and not random trolling. Keep up the good work.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:16pm
4. Inheritance has NOTHING to do with innovation. It's basically a legislation meant to combat the financial feudalism so prevalent in capitalist societies. Coporate taxes might have an impact on innovation, but I gather less than some might claim. What really drives innovation is having a problem and the will to solve that problem.

5. State health programs actually do drive innovation. Well, public research funding does. In the last 30 years, the U.S. government has poured millions into pharmaceutical research and now we have several ways to combat HIV and AIDS, less invasive treatments for cancer, early detection capabilities for cancer and other ailments, and many other advances in medical science that are paid for by the taxpayers and then sold back to them for egregious profits.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:15pm
3. Private housing does NOT increase equality. A case can be made that private pensions do, but they have to be regulated. Our companies here in the U.S. moved to a 401K model, but that's basically gambling on Wall Street and many people lost a lot of retirement savings in the 2008 debacle. On the housing front, the U.S. has been divesting from public housing since the Nixon Administration (early 1970s) and it has had a massive impact. Homelessness is through the roof and there's not a single county in any state in the country where one person working 40 hours a week can afford even a one-bedroom apartment. Not a single one.
-- Recommended fix: regulated private pensions would have an impact on equality, so keep it. Private housing DECREASES equality.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:15pm
2. Reduced restrictions on handguns/firearms does NOT decrease violent crime. It INCREASES it. Again, look at the United States: we have some of the most lax firearm laws in the industrialized world. What do we also have? 300 handguns per human being in the country. The highest number of firearm-related deaths and crimes per capita in the industrialized world. And... oh yea... a pandemic level of mass shootings. You want a model for how to incorporate gun laws in a realistic manner? Look at Japan or Australia, not us.
-- Recommended fix: look at Japan and base your model on that.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:14pm
1. Private Healthcare does NOT reduce drug addiction, public healthcare and adequate mental health infrastructure do. Proof? Take a look at the last 40 years or so in the United States: drug addiction has increased dramatically as the healthcare industry has become more corrupt. Unlike the rest of the industrialized world, we haven't yet adopted a public healthcare system. It also doesn't help we've had a "War On Drugs" since the Nixon administration (early 1970s).
-- Recommended fix: Private healthcare might reduce drug addiction... for wealthy people, but no one else. Wealthy people like it. Corporations definitely like it. It should worsen corruption.
PamperedDuchess 16 Feb, 2020 @ 9:14pm
Interesting that I noticed this while trying to find a mod with ministers that weren't a complete waste of time. A couple of comments, though:

For the most part, I'd say the most of the assertions baked into the mod are realistic. However, there are a few that do not at all coincide with economic reality. I'll list them, shall I?

(This will require a couple posts.)
Polly01 14 Dec, 2019 @ 12:49am
Automation, tariffs and also some other polices shouldn't have a effect on unemployment. It's incompatible with statistics and economy knowledge.
Kraeschoff :L 13 Oct, 2019 @ 4:20pm
I appreciate your use of the Austrian School of Economics for this mod. Now I can form my Ancapstan America!
BRODOD_HUMLE 6 Aug, 2019 @ 9:47pm
@Taskuya religios people are less likeley to become scientist and drive innovation
plankicorn  [author] 21 Jul, 2019 @ 6:21am
Sometimes I seriously don't get why people feel the need to post these random, hateful comments.

1. It's based on Austrian Economics.
2. If they had been "thoroughly" disproved, you would think you would have some kind of credible source, other than you, a random person on the internet calling it "retarded".
Potatoeaterman 20 Jul, 2019 @ 9:33pm
so by making it more realistic you actually mean more retarded and based in Reaganomics ideologies that have been thoroughly disproved by economists for years?
olimcr 3 Jun, 2019 @ 9:34am
@Horus Lupercal

People still buy them on the black market. However law abiding citizens don't have them to defend themselves.
John295 20 May, 2019 @ 1:18pm
education and innovation aren't linked
Legio_IV_Victrix 19 May, 2019 @ 5:05pm
seems very libertarian right, not conservative
Nick The Great 12 May, 2019 @ 12:45am
Why would innovation reduce GDP? This mod is pretty pointless.
cinna 23 Apr, 2019 @ 3:10pm
"Invalid neural Function:/Volumes/Data/filestore/development/positech/macos/Democracy3_OSX/code/game/src/SIM_NeuralEffect.cpp 128" Coud You please fix this?
Elucidus 31 Mar, 2019 @ 2:59pm
Is this still compatible? I got an error "Invalid neural Function:..\..\src\SIM_NeuralEffect.cpp 128"
plankicorn  [author] 27 Mar, 2019 @ 6:19pm
@Horus Lupercal
lol, assuming I haven't studied economics.
Horus Lupercal 27 Mar, 2019 @ 3:41pm
Please dont make an economics mod if you are neither an economist or even know anything about economics. And I don't even want to ask why banning guns causes a massive increase in violent crime.
Carlos "El Turco" Menem 27 Feb, 2019 @ 10:38am
Hahahaha, don't answer to the socialists, they don't know about economics.
plankicorn  [author] 27 Feb, 2019 @ 10:18am
@Arcassia, that's funny, because I'm not conservative.
Arcassia 27 Feb, 2019 @ 8:33am
This is not more realistic, it's simply a conservative beliefs mod in disguise.
Carlos "El Turco" Menem 23 Feb, 2019 @ 3:41pm
This socialist commenting shit things
Pancakes 1 Feb, 2019 @ 5:17pm
Out of curiosity why would private housing increase equality and do you mean private healthcare treats drug addiction better than it does in vanilla or better than public healthcare? Because private healthcare is the cause of the opiate epidemic in the US.
Justyouraverage 12 Jan, 2019 @ 4:23pm
Also, if any of you want to have a socialist system, there are plenty of mods that make socialistic ecomonic biases and polices.
Justyouraverage 12 Jan, 2019 @ 4:21pm
You have guts making this in a SocDem dominated space.
The Obelisk 8 Jan, 2019 @ 10:52pm
@Gyle You understand that weaponry is not a synonym of firearms, right? How's the knife crime?
Gyle 11 Dec, 2018 @ 9:25am
"Reducing restrictions on handguns decreases Violent Crime and vice versa"

You were doing so well. Then you stopped engaging in realirty...
Gyle 11 Dec, 2018 @ 6:42am
@The Obelisk pretty good, last mass shooting was 8 years ago with a shotgun which is still legal, the last one with banned weapons was the incident that got them banned in in 1996.

PS Fox news is a bad place to get your news...
The Obelisk 20 Oct, 2018 @ 7:19pm
@TESloth How well is banning weaponry working out for the UK?
JCDenton-AKA"MK" 18 Oct, 2018 @ 12:11pm
drug controll and crime?
TESloth 8 Oct, 2018 @ 6:30am
>P.S. I will no longer respond to any complaints about the changes I made to Handgun Laws. The gun control debate is so old that I simply won't have it anymore. I will not change this aspect of the mod because, based on statistics, I believe the changes I have made are economically realistic. Please find something else about the mod that you think I should change, add, or remove. Thank you.

This whole mod is a terrifying insight into the American poltiical mind. it's bad, and you should feel bad for making it.
Voltaire 7 Oct, 2018 @ 8:55pm
Alot of these are just your personal opinions which you hold to be true. What are you smoking that privatizing any industry promotes equality?
nike115599 10 Sep, 2018 @ 8:17am
>neither education nor start up investments incentivize innovation
>implying innovation only rises because of tax cuts
bad mod.
3DR 25 Aug, 2018 @ 1:11pm
finaly someone that realises that legalizing guns reduces crime
godspropertymc 9 May, 2018 @ 7:05pm
I like most of your mods but don't think the "Private Pensions and Private Housing increase Equality" mod is realistic. Private pensions will increase the number of wealthy elderly people in time but will also increase inequality. Private pensions should have a positive effect on GDP. More private investment will drive growth. Hey, again I like most of these mods. This game has way to many left wing socialist assumptions built into the simulation. THaNK YOU!
godspropertymc 9 May, 2018 @ 7:00pm
ha, I like the way you think. I just about threw up when I found out my rocking economy was increasing the global temp and causing all kinds of problems. What BS. And I love the John Lott inspired more guns less crime mod! :steamhappy:
Taskuya 28 Sep, 2017 @ 9:21pm
Creationism vs Evolution tie in with Technological Advantage should be cut. I can't find sound statistics nor sound reasoning that says, "creationism equals a halt to Technological Advantages, while Evolution equals progress in Technological Adventages." The CvE debate is a moral and philosophical debate, not a technilogical one, and thus should only affect the voter types(as it does to Religious and Liberal).
Chefsquatch 2 Aug, 2017 @ 11:16pm
If you could add policies on education, I would be grateful. I think that's all this mod is missing. Otherwise I love this mod. Thank you.
lukeradice2 30 Jun, 2017 @ 12:50pm
I think your mod is perfect, i only think gdp does have a connection with co2 emissions, since more industries and buisness apear and produce co2, this new industries and buisness also increase the ammount of waste produced and increase car usage since people have to go to work, so i think the environment should be affected by the gdp too
randomhan 24 Jun, 2017 @ 12:36am
Listen lad's. Just because it doesn't fit your taste doesn't means its not true. Many real things in the world looks absurd in statistics. This mod relatively represents the real economy much better than the original game. Yes a few things are controversial, but that doesn't mean you could spit mean comments at him. have some respect for his work.
elizabethfuller100 16 Jun, 2017 @ 10:10pm
Pretty much every modification that you made is NOT supported by the primary literature in economics . Your version is in fact less realistic than the vanilla one that comes with the game that is an impressive achievement.
jcinrva 7 Jun, 2017 @ 7:24pm
This is a completely unrealistic mod. Its like you made it just to be a troll
1O1Box 31 May, 2017 @ 10:17am
Could you make some buffs to the flat income tax? It's really useless ingame and there is no reason to use it over the regular income tax.
