- Fixed an issue where mod may have caused some other special abilities stat boosts to not function correctly. My bad.

- Added both types of infantry testudo to all testudo-capable units.

- Added cavalry testudo to Auxiliary Cavalry

- Re-added Form Square for Auxiliary Infantry.

Like me, you may have noticed (much to our dismay) that assuming a testudo formation does little to nothing to protect your hardened legionaries against incoming missiles. In actual fact, in many cases it *increases* the casualties, as the effects of the ability appear to lend practically no extra protection, despite looking pretty on-screen, but group your men closer together, making enemy missile hit chance higher...

Since CA seem reluctant to push out actual fixes to broken mechanics, this 'mod' is actually just a minor fix to try and alleviate this problem, that should see the testudo become far more effective at protecting brave Romans from uncivilised Barbarian arrows and javelins. It is designed for maximum compatibility with other mods, and should not conflict with any known mod (other than a battle mod that implements its own fix, but one will override the other without negating any other new features).

This mod works by modifying the special ability's function, not the base stats of your units' armour or shields, so will not introduce any imbalance in melee combat or in normal formation.



For those mod-literate, this changes the additive % bonuses to missile block chance whilst in testudo to something more appropriate:

Offensive Testudo missile block chance: 35 > 45
Defensive Testudo missile block chance: 25 > 42
Cavalry Testudo missile block chance: 30 > 60

This is additive to the base shield chances, resulting in the following total % deflect when in testudo:

Offensive Testudo (infantry scutum): 95%
Defensive Testudo (infantry scutum): 92%
Cavalry Testudo (cavalry parma): 70%

The cavalry testudo is buffed the most as their shield by default is the worst at 10% deflect rate, but at the same time I did not want cavalry testudos to become particularly unstoppable, so they rest at 60% total in this regard.

why is the defensive testudo worse at blocking? That seems incredibly illogical.

@marcus aquila The bolts from towers are so heavy and travels with such force it would make no sence to have them able to block it, it would go through the shield, through a few men and kill maybe 4-5 men, it is what it is designed for, reason why you dont see it as often is because it is big and clumpsy compared to a man with a bow and some arrows.
