The Wandering Ghost (Storypack)

Description
NOTICE: The current mod is NON-FUNCTIONING, but under construction!

Troubling Medical Reports

Greetings Chancellor,

It seems your latest medical staff have reported an increase in sick people at our hospitals and clinics. It's possible these people need further treatment. And not to mention the weird glitches our electronic equipement is experiencing lately... Regardless, watch out for a new influx of patients and keep on top of your hygiene measures!

VIR

  • The Wandering Ghost event chain will release a disease that will spread throughout your empire, affecting biological Pops
  • The Machine empires could fall victim to the Glitch! This digital virus wreaks havoc on robotic empires...
  • The disease will not start immediately; the probability of it occuring increases after each passing decade
  • A challenging mini-crisis! (See notes for more detailed info!)
  • As in real-life, people that get infected must stay home and can't work!
  • A dynamic event chain counter (for the Glitch Virus and Organic Virus) that counts real-time infections, deaths, infected planets and cured people
  • Flavour events tailored to their respective authorities!
  • New technology to cure/fix your inhabitants!
  • New edicts and decisions to restrict the spread of the disease!
  • Determine the scope of your crisis through a choice dialog! (In Multiplayer and Singleplayer, only 1 HUMAN player gets the choice dialog!)

The mod has been updated (01-05-2020) to provide the following features I wanted to add (please see notes for more information):
  • Make it a global event, so AI empires will also be affected by the disease
  • A Machine Empire equivalent of the disease
  • More flavor events
  • Flavor text specific to certain authorities/empires
  • More ways of creating temporary "vaccinations" for several authorities and empire personalities
  • Multiplayer compatible

This mod is quite different compared to my previous mods in complexity and difficulty to code. Therefore, you might encounter issues over the course of your campaign, and please report them in the Bug Report Discussion.
  • The virus will not start automatically; to allow for Singleplayer and Multiplayer, I've created a choice dialog. In Multiplayer only 1 HUMAN player gets the choice dialog (of course, when playing multiplayer, that person should select the 2nd option). Through the choice dialog you can select the size of impact of the event (see pictures above). After selecting one option, the rest of the event chain will play out as normal.
Global Event: When choosing to involve AI empires, this is entirely possible. The AI will select corresponding techs and create vaccinations to cure its citizens; however, it might be that this does not happen, then please let me know in the bug discussion!
Machine Virus: The Machine Virus will only be present when one of the player(s) is a Machine Authority (for now). However, the Machine Virus mechanic is strongly linked to the Organic Virus: only if the # of casualties and number of infected planets is high enough (see patch notes), the Machine Virus event chain will begin. The Machine Player(s) gets events which determine whether or not the Machine Virus will actually trigger or not. These events require a bit of critical thinking to either trigger it or not. Through a weighted process this determines whether the Glitch event chain will start or not.
Once again, I strongly advice to look at the patch notes!
  • The event should start after 2250; after each decade the probability will increase that it will fire.
  • Trying to prevent further infections? As the disease progresses you get access to new technology. Tier 3 tech allows you to quarantine and vaccinate a planet, as done by a planetary decision and a special project led by a science ship manned by a scientist.
  • All your pops are dying too fast and you didn't come across the T3 tech?Type in console research_technology tech_wagho_event_study_3. You can now issue a planetary decision that allows you to quarantine and vaccinate the planet by use of a manned science ship.

This mod was not possible without the help of some very smart people! Therefore, I want to thank each of these people for their valueable contributions:
  • Erdnuss; for his notes regarding event chain counters
  • James Fire
  • ViolentBeetle
  • McAwesome
  • Red-Eyed Fairace
  • Starchitec
  • Walshicus; for his exile leader pool code
  • Iyur
  • G S Palmer

This mod was inspired by the plague mod and current day events (COVID-19 outbreak in 2020).

Don't forget to drop a like (or dislike); your feedback is important to me! Also, leave a comment as well! Much appreciated!

Definitely be sure to make use of the new systems they introduced for Situations and Faction mechanics. Lotta potential for this mod!

Since I have some time these days, I'm looking into reviving this mod. Unfortunately because of the scale of it, it might take some time to fix everything. :Rivals:

Well, since I am not a bit of a programmer myself this will take time to repair. One day.

I really really wanted to like this mod, sadly after getting the 100th permanent cure message after vaccinating a planet in a single play through I gave up. Hopefully it is only a minor bug with 2.7 but damn. Fun while it lasted

well fun fact - it never stops in my playthrough - always comes back
- i have 2 planets they both get infected and i heal them at the same time...it comes back AND the population that was in self isolation vanishes into thin air...not funny
