Witness Me

Description
Synopsis:

This is a major overhaul to the mechanics of Spacer units. It focuses on making them incredibly aggressive and introduces a variety of new abilities and effects.

Description:

The Spacer Units in vanilla lack unique mechanics. They play like a rag tag band of leftovers rather than a hoard of psychotic maniacs. Many of their units are just worse than other similar tiered units without any sort of mechanic to justify that power difference. They’re mediocre at best.

The focus of Witness Me is to bring a hyper aggressive play style to Spacer units. This is accomplished primarily through Violent Buffs. Violent Buffs last until the start of your next turn, but can be extended for another turn through aggressive acts. A good example is the new passive, Witness Me. Whenever a unit with Witness Me gets a kill, all friendly units in a 2 hex radius gain Fervor, a stacking Violent Buff that grants bonus damage and damage resistance, and Fueled By Violence, a buff that extends all Violent Buffs for another turn. This encourages the player to go for kills at any cost, because Witness Me protects a unit if it gets a kill, and by grouping units, many can benefit from the Fervor stacks that are generated.

The downside is that Violent Buffs are always just one turn away from expiring. Meaning an unexpected stagger or status effect can stop the Spacer wrecking ball dead in its tracks. This creates a bit of a dilemma for the player. Units like the Spacer Hellcopter can provide a guaranteed way to prolong these buffs for just another turn. However, this ability comes at the cost of its some what lackluster combat prowess.

All Spacer Units have unique mechanics that provide or interact with Violent Buffs in different ways. This means that whatever hoard you assemble, they’ll play differently but aggression will be a big component of their play style.

Compatibility

This mod alters the Spacer Unit records and the Spacer Hero Mount records. It won’t be compatible with other mods that change these records.

Last time i play him was 2 hours before comment. Melter with right mods is far, far superior then any unit. Its pretty easy to have 5 stacks all the time, epsecially vs AI. Yes, you can kill him with few 30 damage nukes, but it true about any over unit.
Look how hard for over spacers to have 5 stacks of fervor all the time, and all that melter need is got shot. 1 early melter in your army = easy map clear at very least. And this is already huge.
I wont lie - so far i didnt test it vs human player, but at least hardest AI suck vs him. Especially if you got him early and rush after - low tier units, even with good mods, just get rekt.
No tier 3 or tier 4 unit in this situation can do the same.

@Chikanuk

Are you using the latest version? I would agree with your assessment for the release version. However, the Melter got hard nerfed recently. Currently if you literally throw the Melter into auto-combat against a very very weak stack (4-stack of 3 T1 + 1 T2 starting marauders) it will die horribly, taking out 1-2 units tops. My thought on its current balance is that against a human player it's within the ballpark, you can use status effects, ranged superiority, shields, etc to deal with it. Against an AI I think it's potentially strong, maybe needing a bit more of a hp/armor nerf given that it's strong against focus fire.

Not sure about over units yet, but melter feels way to powerful - this is already pretty good unit which now ALWAYS have max 5 stacks of fervor. So unless you somehow 1shot this already beafy guy he become most powerful combatant in whole game. Both in term of tankiness and damage. And on top of that - he will revive with 30 hp if you somehow manage to kill him quickly.
In neutral stacks this units is a nightmare and in hands of player (especially human one) they are literally one man army.

Maybe you rework him a little? So his passive instead of stacking fervor will give him (for example) armor with each hit for 1 round? But revive will still consume fervor.
With this changes it will be harder for him to solo entire neutral stack, imho.

Agree with "not dying part psychotic Revelry seems a bit strong," seems OP

Love it, but the not dying part psychotic Revelry seems a bit strong, espcially because the other buffs grant damage resistance.
