Ever wondered what space station came first before Mir?

Salyut 7

Salyut 7 was a single module space station which was launched by the Soviet Union on April 19th 1982 on top of a Proton Rocket. Salyut 7 was the seventh and final space station in the Salyut program (and I will not be building all seven stations as it might actually kill me). It was initially the backup space station to Salyut 6, but when the Mir Space Station was suffering from delays the Soviets decided to launch Salyut seven to keep a Soviet presence in low Earth orbit.

HOW TO USE

Well its quite simple.

1) Enter the space station by going to the TKS Spacecraft (THE GREEN ONE) and pressing the button on the hatch of the TKS. This will open it.
2) Once inside do whatever.

Additional

Salyut 7 is of course famous for losing power in 1985 before being rescued by Soyuz Crew T-13 who were able to restore the space station to operational levels. This has been made into a movie in 2017 called 'Salyut 7' (very original).

One of the things Salyut 7 tested was docking multiple modules which was important research for the Mir Station which would be modular in design. As a result Salyut 7 had a TKS Spacecraft dock to it. The TKS also provided some control for the station.

When Mir was finally launched in 1986 the crew of Soyuz T-15 needed to collect some equipment and science experiments from Salyut 7. As a result they had to travel between both space stations to collect the items. T-15 was the last crew to inhabit the Salyut station and to this day it was the only time a crew travelled between two stations in the same spacecraft. The TKS boosted the Salyut into a higher orbit so that one day it could be reused or recovered by the Buran Space Shuttle that the Soviets were also developing. However The Salyut would never be used again as the Soviet Union fell apart and the Buran program was cancelled. The Salyut finally enter the atmosphere in 1991.

TKS Spacecraft

The TKS spacecraft was a potential replacement for the Soyuz spacecraft. The TKS was made out of two parts, the VA capsule and the Cargo Block module. The TKS did fly into space however the complete craft would only fly four times before being cancelled. This could be due to the fact that it launched on the Proton Rocket which used hypergolic propellant which is toxic to humans. However parts of the TKS would be reused in the Mir space station and some parts of the ISS station (Russian side).

HOW TO DOCK AND UNDOCK TKS

To undock press 8 on keyboard and 9 to dock.

To separate VA from main cargo module press 1 on second toolbar tab

Soyuz

I'm not going to go into too much detail with the Soyuz since it has been flying for such a long time. I will do a more in depth explanation of the craft when I make the R7/Soyuz rocket and Spacecraft.

HOW TO DOCK AND UNOCK SOYUZ

To unlock press 4 on keyboard and 5 to dock.

To separate the Soyuz Orbit Module press 8 and to separate service module press 9

Enjoy!
