Designed during the 1920's with the intent of being a cheap and simple machine gun for the Soviet Army,the DP27 was used by the Soviets in all fronts of WW2,by the Finnish (They captured thousands),by German Volkssturm units,and by many other countries,like both Chinas or Poland (The 1st Polish army under the Soviet Army).Despite it's flaws,it acquired the reputation of being reliable

DP28 is the name the west gave to this gun,because back then Soviet weapons were named after the year they were introduced,and with all the secretive nature of armies back then,the Soviets didn't start to show these officially until 1928,even though they were issued in 1927.
Thus,the Soviets called it DP27 while the rest of the world called it DP28
