DP28 is the name the west gave to this gun,because back then Soviet weapons were named after the year they were introduced,and with all the secretive nature of armies back then,the Soviets didn't start to show these officially until 1928,even though they were issued in 1927.
Thus,the Soviets called it DP27 while the rest of the world called it DP28
