Canyonlands

Description
Canyonlands is from a heightmap of an area of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, where the Colorado and Green Rivers converge. The geography is accurate, but the highways and rail are pure fiction, as this is a wilderness area. I've used the Arid Theme and the Realistic 1.2 LUT.

There is fertile land for farming up on the plateaus, IF you can get water up there. There is also a lot of ore, but the terrain is formidable. I'd recommend the 81 Tiles Mod to get to those resources or to build in the feature areas. I've used the Catenary Replacer Mod to get rid of the catenaries, but that's optional.

Be careful editing the major bridges if you are not familiar with them in the workshop. They have a steep learning curve, especially the Stonecutter's Bridge. Save your game before you touch them.

Thanks to the great BonBonB for his review: https://youtu.be/cZ040WhHOCshttps://youtu.be/cZ040WhHOCs

Update: Ever since the Monolith first appeared in the Utah desert, I felt the need to put it in my map. Thanks to Workshop creator LeeTG3 for creating a Monolith: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2308221778. The actual location of the real Monolith is a little outside of my map, so I've relocated it inside my map. I'm not telling where; like the real one, you will have to find it on your own.

Update: I've put another Easter egg in the map. A rock formation in the shape of the Paradox logo. It's outside of the 25 tiles.

this map similar to Riyadh terrain

Trying this reply for the third time.

Turns out I had the colors right from the start. But my game is weird and shows everything really dark by default. So I thought I had it wrong. Theme Mixer showed me the exposure was way low.

The dam landed right on top of one of the sources. It was all the fiddling I did with adding sources and cranking them up that got the river flowing backwards. It probably would have stabilized eventually. But it honestly just didn't look right. It was a fun experiment, but I can't say I'd recommend the idea.

As the map was from a heightmap, the river beds are relatively flat, so there not a fast flow. I "dammed" them with the terrain tool at the top of the map and use spawn points to force flow toward and off the bottom of the map.

I wonder if you had placed the dam just below one of my spawn points, causing my next spawn point downstream to flow toward the dam. You may need to place a new spawn point immediately below the dam.

It looks like you've got the colors right.

I can confirm the rivers do flow. But they aren't impressive.

Tried a dam, doesn't really seem to work. Well, it didn't produce any power... which I understand is normal if you build outside 25 tiles. I thought I was inside that, maybe I wasn't. But building it any further inside the limit just wouldn't look right. An 80-meter dam would almost flood half the map. It was also difficult to get right. I had so much waterflow behind the dam that the river was running backwards. Had to build up the wall a bit to get the level up. I did actually attempt to build a new dam further downstream. But my computer crashed when I bulldozed the old dam. I don't think it liked the idea of simulating those physics.

Yeah, the rail line will be a challenge. But I already have a similar one on a map I've been working on. It's mostly a matter of patience.

It's not the map. I was just telling the story. You had asked about the river flow and I was going to check it but couldn't. I think the problem is the pagefile. That's something I'm trying to sort out.

I don't understand the unpause problem. Since there isn't much vegetation, it shouldn't be a huge load on your computer.

Rail to the river? That's a long way down given appropriate rail grades.

Something I thought someone might try is a dam on one of the rivers. But I think you'd need BloodyPenguin's Extra Landscaping Tools to install or adjust water spawn points.

I got everything. The mobile app is notorious for not showing all the details. So when I tried verifying it while in-game I couldn't. Sedona actually looked good with a different LUT and the exposure cranked up.

The game was acting weird, couldn't get the simulation to run. Had no problem moving the camera, just couldn't unpause it. So I couldn't verify what BonBon said about the river flow. But the lack of arrows wasn't encouraging.

Finally came up with some ideas for the build. One of them being a rail line down to the river. That will be a project.

The Arid Theme and the Realistic LUT V1.2 are listed in the requirements, along with the bridges which are a necessity.

I tried numerous themes, and yes, the Sedona is just too red, like Mars.
Sasquatch 30 Oct, 2020 @ 5:11pm
I can't get the look right. It's the Sedona theme, right? What LUT? Mine looks like Mars. If I crank the exposure with the theme mixer I get kinda close. Granted, I'm not going to get photoreal with my rig.

Really like the map. Just need to get the look like BonBon had in the review. Then have to think long and hard about the build. The assets I wanted were too much for my potato to handle. Going to build with vanilla buildings and swap them after I get my new rig.
