Description

A VTOL recon plane with instrumented cockpit and searchlights.
⨴ Ascend to 10 metres before toggling VTOL, or you will probably crash.
⨴ Cockpit instrumentation includes: terrain indicator, 0-50m/s and 0-300m/s speedometers, 0-50m and 0-2000m altimeters, and engine/VTOL switches.
Telescope has 60d, 30d, and 10d FoV cameras.
⨴ Yaw is ridiculously powerful so that the winds in The Frozen Path don't stop the craft from turning.

One of NS' first vehicles, the Huginn was developed from a failed bid for a military recon vehicle to recoup the significant costs incurred. Marketed to the public as a general-purpose light VTOL, it was targeted primarily at search-and-rescue efforts, tourism, and impatient people with deep pockets.

Its low cost, small footprint, and ability to takeoff/fly/land in any weather conditions made it mildly successful, though hampered by its small payload capacity and modest range. It didn't quite recoup its development costs, but it did well enough to limit the damage.

Scored #2 in RLM #21: Arctic Exploration Planes.

I was going to build a drone, but the contest specification said a cockpit was required. Unfortunate.

There are plenty of Space Engineers-like elements on this craft; the thrusters, the laser antenna, the spotlights, and even the shape of the craft.
I'm trying to achieve a certain aesthetic - given that the references are all so removed from the requirements of Nanite Systems craft, I can never be sure I'm doing it right.

This will be the third surface plane I've built. I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it.

Shuttles are dedicated cargo and crew transport craft.
They carry their payloads to and from orbit and beyond. While planetside shuttles are typically the smallest of practical spaceships, their orbital counterparts are often the largest.
