Gobb's Oddity

Description
Feb-19-2022 Update
Starship Evo has had many updates since Gobb's Oddity was first released. Some of the updates have goofed up some colors, made stickers go weird among many things.
This update is a small update fixing colors and some stickers so that the ship is better presented. I also fixed the main guns which were broken in an update.

I intend to go through the ship and clean up all the artifact stickers from the neovox conversion and might update the interior to be a bit more fresh, but while maintaining the character and feel.

If you sub to Gobb's Oddity, unsub and resub for the update. If your spawned Oddity has white thrusters, its the broken one. If your spawned Oddity has yellow thrusters, its the current update :)
ty all!

Jan-12-20201 Update
Gobb had a warp drive retrofitted to the Oddity.
Also added a landing gear button to the exterior of the ship, see screenshots for location.
Added some window armor to keep out pirates. If you do not like the armor, feel free to remove it.

Hope you are all doing well!

Short Story
Gobb is a fun loving, peaceful alien smuggler trying to make his way through life. The Oddity, as he calls her, is his small cargo ship he uses for work. Retrofitted from an antiquated military reconnaissance drop ship originally commissioned to Servo Motorworks. Most of his work is within the radar of legality, but occasionally he smuggles cargo off world that the military alliance frown upon. Gobb is always looking for work, if you need a friendly, well seasoned smuggler Gobb is your alien man!

Gobb's Breakdown of the Oddities Features
• 3 Turrets.
• Rear cargo lift gate for larger items or palleted cargo. Exterior operation is done through a control on the right landing gear.
• Drop down observation camera in the cargo hold. Use the lever to the right of the screen to raise/lower the camera.
• Front personal lift for ingress/egress. Exterior operation is done through a control on the front landing gear.
• Small lounge with a place to eat and sleep.
• Shower and toilet off the main path, for privacy.
• Secret storage compartment in the bridge for sensitive cargo.
• Item stand next to the workbench in the cargo hold. Place a wrench in here for utility (thanks to Viper28 for this amazing idea!)
• The design goal behind the Oddity is a Block build with brick details. This is why the curvature of the ship is less refined.
• ...and more. Sub to Gobb's Oddity for a personal tour.

Operation
• G key to raise and lower the landing gear. The side engine pods will rotate for landing and lift off and work in conjunction with the landing gear.
• 2 Key to raise and lower the rear cargo gate. You may change this to the 1 key if you prefer in the utility closet located in the bridge/cockpit.

***A NOTE ABOUT THE SIDE ENGINE PODS***
Currently in game the direction of thrusters is "remembered" when you enter the yoke to pilot the ship. What this means is that when the Oddity is landed, there will be more vertical thrust than horizontal thrust, even after you raise the landing gear and the side engine pods rotate. The only fix at the moment is to simply leave the yoke (not the chair) and re-enter the yoke after the landing gear is up. This will give you the desired forward momentum.

Tsuna knows about this bug and it's on his list to fix.

Enjoy Gobb's Oddity and have fun! :)

@Alex The ship upgrades are in a menu to the left of the UI. Its the same for all ships, the upgrades are not physically located in the ship.

I am not sure how the turrets are working now with all the changes to the game since I released this ship. They were initially set up on auto, but I put the chairs in for manual control.

I also have another question about the ship's turrets.
Are they only by hand or is there a key to activate them to run in automatic mode ?
Alex Ringess 8 Jul, 2021 @ 9:22am
Fair enough.
Gonna wait then.

Oh, just a question.
I didn't find the location of the chips upgrades. Where are they in the ship ?
(Sorry if it sound like a strange question but I started to play the game few days ago and I'm a total noob ^^)

Thank you Alex! I want to release the station parts (its a modular system), but I would like to go over all of it when the current experiemental branch goes live. There are a lot of changes to how building works going forward and I want to make sure the station parts are not broken and work as I intend them to.

Very good ship man.
Thanks for sharing it.

Is there a chance to see the space station shown on the video in the workshop one day or another ? This station looks amazing too !!

Interesting ideas, I will be sure to take them into account!

Also wanted to mention I keep a copy of Gobb's Oddity near my build to get inspiration. It's a very good build you have.

You are welcome Donnie. Another thing I like to do is come up with some basic lore, or background. This does not need to be in writing, or even deep...just come up with something basic like "military ship for a 5 star general", "smuggling ship with hidden cargo", "strike fighter that seats two" etc. You can of course flesh out any lore, and in truth some lore can help you flesh out the ship.

In art & school you learn that limitations/boundries are you best friend. Tell me to create something on an empty canvas...and I am lost. Tell me to create a red house that fits in a 10x10x5 box and the ideas start coming. Lore can help with this because you start to define the work without knowing it.

If you have a concept and have set those limitations, you are 50% of the way there :)

Yes that was very insightful! thank you for responding :)

I ask because I'm building my own first ship and you seem to be very adept at it
