I actually haven't played since 2015 (and when I did it wasn't for long) so I wouldn't know some (maybe lots) of what you've mentioned. I had thought of making a character for new or casual players that don't really know how to play, like myself, but it seems that I just made it too easy.
About coming up with a different play style: I might have to play the game more in order to think of something. It's harder to create something new for a game I don't know much about. Just like feedbacks, suggestions are welcome.
About the staff: I didn't know it was that good because it can't launch more than 3-4 fireballs before the fuel and sanity is depleted and the light's duration and range are worse than a torch's. Perhaps reducing it to one fireball and making the recharge time longer (or removing it) can make things a little fairer?
Well, unless I can think of something different, on the next update I'll nerf the strength boost.
First, your character powers off sanity. Because of how sanity works, this character is Wolfgang, but for sanity instead of hunger. If you stay insane, you can fight anything that lowers sanity, like nightmares easier than ever! With dark sword, this character can stay at lunar island forever with permanent damage boost while there!
Second, your character is Wilson with a free weapon that gives infinite light from the start with recharge ability, has higher hunger and easier to survive - the damage penalty is meaningless, and the boost is too good to ignore, by staying at medium sanity. This character can be either a offensive Wigfrid, or Wolfgang with less health but no food hassle.
I suggest making something more creative, like different play styles, not "Wolfgang but easier".
