Better Market Upgrades

Description
This mod is included in Shogun 2 Enhanced.

Market upgrades are not generally preferred due to food consumption introduced with the second tier. You may disagree (though some people did the math and it doesn't look good for rice exchange), but the AI in particular is badly affected by this, since it doesn't do a good job at managing food and growth. This mod simply removes food consumption from Rice Exchange and Merchant Guild while lowering Kanakabuma's (final tier) food consumption to 1. The buildings are somewhat nerfed for balance. There are some other mods dealing with this issue through other means, such as giving markets a global growth bonus or even making them provide food. I believe this is simpler and will have less impact on overall feel and gameplay.

The mod changes very little and should be compatible with other mods.

Changes, with original values in brackets
Building / Cost / Flat Bonus / Town Growth
Market (no changes): 850 / 200 / 5 / no food consumption
Rice Exchange: 1800 (1600) / 500 / 8 (10) / no food consumption (-1)
Merchant Guild: 3800 (3400) / 1000 / 16 (20) / no food consumption (-2)
Kanakabuma: 8000 / 2000 / 30 (35) / -1 food (-2)

If you enjoy this mod, rate it! Rating brings more subscribers and (hopefully) more feedback, which'll lead to better mods. Check my workshop for similar mods that enhance the vanilla game.

Note: I play with UAI Revived (strongly suggest it) and I suspect UAI makes the AI less likely to upgrade markets, which was perfectly understandable in Vanilla. As upgrading becomes more viable with this mod, I also included an entry to revert the AI's evaluation of Rice Exchange to its default values. I'm just writing this to be detailed and transparent as possible, it's not really a big deal and very unlikely to have any affect on your other mods or campaign.

Ah, thanks again.
I know it was a pointless request and i appreciate the effort in the mod.

No worries mate, you're welcome. Here it is, I haven't tested it but it's really unlikely to cause any problems https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2292178706

Oh, thank you.
Sorry to bother, by the way.

Sorry for replying late, the last months have been busy for me. I'll try to make a version for that, hopefully within this week. It's actually very easy to do with PFM

I mean, they CAN be reduced and it's balanced.
No problem in that.
But they don't need to.

Hey nobubblegums, i tested your mod and i noticed that neither the cost or the flat bonus need to be reduced, only the food consumption and the AI's evaluation of upgrade the building.
I'm wondering if you can make a second mod with just that.

The food cost definitely bothered me. Market is supposed to be the economic building, yet the upgrades in any provice without a good Metsuke were a bad idea.

Started a new campaign with both of your mods. I will post feedback. Cheers!

Buildings in the game rarely follow a logical cost to benefit ratio and the market line was particularly weird, probably because it was hard to quantify the effect of food consumption. I tried to mimic RoTS' market line and other lines in Shogun 2 without getting overly systematic. Values can be further refined on feedback, but I don't expect large changes.
