RAGE VIRUS

Description
Experience the fierce virus outbreak!

This mutation brings you intense gameplay experience, filled with hordes of zombies. They're fast, ferocius, and freaking tough so fight tooth and nail for your survival. Rage, rage againts the dying of light!

RAGE VIRUS features no (less) special infected and lots of zombie hordes as seen in movies such as 28 Days Later (2002), Dawn of the Dead (2004), and World War Z (2013) with fast moving infected instead of slow zombified corpse. Please read the Change Notes for a more straightforward list of changes and read the FAQ first if you have any questions. Hope you'll have a fun and challenging experience with this mutation!

It's been 28 days since the first infection and we still don't know what's going on out there. Our recon team sent us this intel just before they went radio silent. It may give us insight on what's happening in the quarantined zone ahead!

- They're fast and furious. Blunt weapon can't kill em with one swing. Gotta hit the head!
- They'll try to surround and attack you from behind. Take 'er easy, no reckless rushing!
- Bring something handy for close encounters and check your corners. Check those corners!
- Fight only the most important ones. Conserve your ammo, they never stop coming.
- When in doubt know your way out. Throw pipes to lure em out.
- Those bloated vomit bags. Don't shoot em up close.
- When it's quiet, something big might be lurking around the corner.
- Sons of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate fire, even the big ones.
- Set traps with gas can and propane. These ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ain't gonna kill themselves.
- Don't... piss off... the crying girl... *AUGGHHH*


How fierce would this mutation be? It's up to you to decide. I'll explain this in two short parts or you can skip straight to the conclusion for a TLDR version.

First, the difficulty settings. Player can choose from Easy, Normal, Advanced, and Expert difficulty before starting a RAGE VIRUS game (it can also be done ingame with voting system) and the game will get much more punishing and lot less forgiving the higher it goes. By increasing difficulty level player can expect to face things listed below which are more or less controlled by the AI director.

- increased zombie toughness
- increased zombie hit damage
- increased zombie agressiveness // not yet confirmed
- increased zombie wandering density // not yet confirmed
- increased mob spawn rate
- increased boss spawn probability // not yet confirmed
- increased boss lethality and survavibility
- increased survivor friendly fire damage

Second, the campaign itself. Good campaigns are made with vanilla game balance in mind and this mutation modify that game balance, creating new experience different from vanilla game (wide open area become much more dangerous, crescendo gauntlet event become much more challenging, previously bad hiding spot become strategic choke point, undesired weapon become viable, and ammo conservation become top priority to name a few) and thus causing a much easier or even harder gameplay based on each campaign level design.

Conclusion

Campaigns will get easier or even harder based on their level design, most noticeably during finale and gauntlet event where player will be forced to fight hordes of zombies. Hopefully by reading this player could get the general idea of what to expect in a RAGE VIRUS game and adjust their difficulty settings accordingly towards their desired gameplay experience.


A lone wandering zombie can be killed easily, however when that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bring friends things get ugly fast. It really shows during Crescendo Gauntlet Event as they never stop coming. Adjustments have been made towards the event but most campaigns have their own gauntlet script, causing a much easier or even harder onslaught. Worry not, with this few steps no gauntlet event should be too much for you to handle even on higher difficulty.

Step 1: Equip ONE HIT KILL PRIMARY and TRUSTY SECONDARY
Step 2: Get BOOMER BILE and ADRENALINE SHOT
Step 3: Start the gauntlet
Step 4: ?
Step 5: PROFIT!

Also, don't forget about DEPLOYABLE UPGRADE PACK, M60 MACHINEGUN, and CHAINSAW. Additionally, if you're about to get overwhelmed. Find yourself a corner or a choke point to hold them off. Furthermore, think of bots as your additional health buffer. Keep them alive as your meatshield or sacrifice them to rush towards the objective. Use your judgement wisely!

STILL CAN'T PASS THE GAUNTLET?

Don't worry, don't worry, we all go down sometime. Just lower the difficulty instead for an easier fight towards the objective. In the end any zombie fight you can crawl away from means you've won it!


RAGE VIRUS mutation did not alter original weapon stats, giving new player easier time to adjust with familiar vanilla game weaponry. That means additional weapon script can be safely installed alongside this mutation, giving you more creative freedom to survive the apocalypse with your means of destruction.

READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING OTHER SCRIPT!

- Custom weapon scripts are not necessarily required to beat RAGE VIRUS game. Similar to vanilla game, this mutation can be beaten with guts and wits alone even on higher difficulty.
- Custom weapon scripts haven't been tested on multiplayer RAGE VIRUS server. Using them may cause inconsistency error when played with other players. That being said, typing "sv_consistency 0" in the console might just do the trick.
- Custom weapon scripts would work on single player vanilla game by default and probably other mutation as well.
- Custom weapon scripts would also work even without additional weapon skin mod (such as script that alter mag size, damage, accuracy, and total reserve ammo) however some of them would probably need complimentary weapon skin to match em visually (such as full auto shotgun script replacement for vanilla rifle).
- Custom weapon scripts that modify melee weapon stats might work alongside this mutation.
- Custom weapon scripts installed from the workshop might not work properly without restarting the game first.
- Custom weapon scripts downloaded from elsewhere might need to be manually placed higher in the addon list in order for them to work.
- Custom weapon scripts were used to modify custom weapon HUD and thanks to The Last Stand update they were no longer required, however some old HUD addons might still use this method if they haven't been updated yet.

@J E T T I was playing vanilla maps (dead center and dead air), for some reason the specials were spawning and could use their abilities (with the exception of hunter/boomer)

@Dark Kill I haven't touched this game since last couple year, so pretty sure it's a scripted event / spawn in the map or the server itself. I too have also experienced specials spawning in certain community campaign when I'm playing a game too long ( maybe it has to do with the map scripts ) but it will go back to normal after reaching the safehouse.

IIRC I have also added safety measures so that specials that spawn can't use their ability ( not sure, been a long time ) do let me know if you have any more question and suggestion.

Why have you added the specials infected back? Only boomer was awesome mate, now it just feels like vanilla with some tweaks

This is a really creative and fun mutation and real hard 10/10 in my opnion
