@J E T T I was playing vanilla maps (dead center and dead air), for some reason the specials were spawning and could use their abilities (with the exception of hunter/boomer)

@Dark Kill I haven't touched this game since last couple year, so pretty sure it's a scripted event / spawn in the map or the server itself. I too have also experienced specials spawning in certain community campaign when I'm playing a game too long ( maybe it has to do with the map scripts ) but it will go back to normal after reaching the safehouse.

IIRC I have also added safety measures so that specials that spawn can't use their ability ( not sure, been a long time ) do let me know if you have any more question and suggestion.

@Sayouri sorry to hear that but I don't have other solution atm, perhaps you should google for help elsewhere typically on forums, L4D2 being an old game there should be answers ( especially if your problem persist not only with this mod )

@Sayouri Ah I see that's it, since this is not an "official" mutation

generally you would want to host your own server with mods to play with friends by letting the ones with the best internet and PC to be the host, select MUTATION > RAGEVIRUS > play with friends > create lobby > set server to LOCAL SERVER

Also if you and your mates have lots of skins and mods, it's also advisable to type "sv_consistency 0" in the console before playing together (all need to type that)

@Sayouri can you elaborate more on what the problem is? because I just checked the script file and can't find anything wrong, this mutation can support up to 4 player max, can you tell me more what is not working, single player works but multiplayer not? any red error lines in developer console? any conflicting mods?

@Sayouri well, both you and the others need to download / subscribe to the mutation before setting up a server and make sure to set up a mutation lobby instead of a campaign,

I'm also working on a big update for this mutation to be released in the near future so if your problem still persist do let me know again so that I can put a fix in the next update

@FOX2126 when starting l4d2, first type "sv_cheats 1" in the console then type the map that you want to play with [ragevirus] at the end, example "map c1m1_hotel ragevirus" that should do it

@Doggo CI won't do that but boomers do spill puke if you're close enough when they explode, if you're talking about the screenshots I used this survivor mods by Ellie:

@Daboss117 thanks for bringing this, the thing is this mutation add three times the amount of CI into the map, which mean a lot more zombies to render. That combined with heavy addons (such as dynamic light, heavy sized campaign, high detailed texture, high poly models, etc) could potentially cause the crash. If you're still experiencing crash, you could try disabling some of those heavy mods or reduce zombie corpse limit with "cl_ragdoll_limit" in the console (default is 20)

Recently encountered an issue where the game will suddenly crash while using this mutation. It's odd as there's no error message, the game doesn't freeze up, just suddenly I see my desktop wallpaper. Not sure if the issue is common or if something I have is messing with it, just thought I'd bring it up.

@Cole World unfortunately I don't think that is possible without a plugin, you could try use one in conjunction with this mutation, they should work without any conflict... I guess.

@nuclear holocausto unfortunately I can't replicate the issue you're having, it should take around a dozen of default pistol shots to kill a CI across all difficulty, you may have custom scripts for default pistol installed on your end, you could try testing on a vanilla campaign without the mutation and see it it persist, you could also try reinstalling this mutation for a start, but other than that I really have no idea.

@nuclear holocausto are you sure the P220 and GLOCK default pistol killed CI with few body shot? it's possible with a headshot but not for body shot.

@nuclear holocausto if you're talking about the DEAGLE then no, as far as I know there's no way to change that one shot kill policy and you can also use DEAGLE as "primary weapon" in vanilla game, MAGNUM rounds are supposed to be powerful and accurate, it's balanced by limiting the ammo count thus reducing effectiveness against multiple CI hordes.

@JohnnyFire 117 please refer to Note.4 in Notes from the Battlefield, the game will get considerably easier after you find a one hit kill weapons that can penetrate multiple enemies and can be zoomed for easier kill from a distance. You can still find HUNTINGRIFLE and MILITARYSNIPER in the game, but they are much more rare to spawn (the same rare spawn percentage that AWP and SCOUT used to have in vanilla game, doing this also gives both bolt action snipers more value and usage in this mutation while still retaining both automatic snipers greater value and usage).

Firstly, I actually wanted to thank you for bringing Suicide Blitz 2 to my mind, out of curiosity I tried it with RAGE VIRUS and I gotta say I had a blast, it felt like I was really trying to survive zombie apocalypse from a densely populated city.

Secondly, I see you have a keen interest on RAGE VIRUS and after reading your comment I can better understand the issue you're having while playing on custom campaign.

I will update the description with a link for a toned down version, stay tuned.

reason : on some custom maps like Suicide Blitz, Dead Before Dawn (which are very popular and often played) there are a lot more spawn points or small alleys with waves - to survive this its essential that the commons are slower and less spongey. i mean the HP are pretty fine but the headshot thing makes it impossible at times.

would be very nice if you could do the alternative versions, since you just have to delete 1-2 things. great mutation, maybe the best (for me) on the workshop.

so i did some testing on all official maps and on like 15 custom campaigns.
for the official ones it works pretty good (having a blast playing it - should be a base game mutation) but for most custom ones it depends (obvisiously) on how the map was created (paths, spawn points,ammo, molotov etc.) so my suggestion after some testing :
could you make like 2 alternative version for the custom maps ?

Rage Virus (slow) - like regular RV but the Zds have normal speed as in base game.

Rage Virus (Bodyshot/ Slow) - like above and Zds can be bodyshotted again like in vanilla

I did experience crash using this mutation with a few heavy mods and after I "edit" those heavy mods my game runs smoothly but that's coming from my end, I would suggest you to try this mutation with your preferred enhancement mod first.

@StartChillThe you can start a game with this mutation by selecting RAGE VIRUS from the MUTATION menu and not from the CAMPAIGN menu, you can also start this mutation game by typing "map map-filename ragevirus" in the console without quotation marks (example: map c1m1_hotel ragevirus)

- SCHISM HUD: Main [Modular Version]
- SCHISM HUD: Player (NoHUD)
- SCHISM HUD: Team (NoHUD)
- SCHISM HUD: Weapon (Compact) < this is the one I adjusted if I'm not mistaken
- Crosshair: White +

1) CI spawn rate is the same as before, I just change the CI limit
2) No I didn't, I was thinking of changing the finale CI waves limit but since the TANK will also spawn I decided not to

I tested this mutation on almost every Valve original campaign with advance difficulty and bots AI and so far I'm pretty satisfied with the results, right now I have no intention to tone down the CI in this release.

If you really want a toned down version I can help you with that, just add me , state your business in my profile and we can discuss more about the changes in DM (make sure to remind me so that I won't forget about it).

PS: Yeah I remember playing Suicide Blitz, the finale was already intense even without this mutation, you have some serious balls playing that campaign with RAGE VIRUS haha.

2 quick questions :

have you altered the spawn rates of the CI or just the limit ?
have you changed the limit of CI for waves ?

also, can we get an alternate (a bit toned down) version without the headshot ? because without edits, i constantly run out of ammo, especially on custom maps like suicide blitz2 etc - was almost impossible to beat, even on easy difficulty. - so guess either just make them bodyshot or tone them down a bit. i dont know if this ws just a feelingbut after some map testing i think waves are always a bit too hard.
