Description
Mod adds 4 new colour tracer variants to vanilla 5.56mm and 25mm ammo:
- Orange
- Red
- Green
- Blue
- Vanilla ammo unchanged

100% Chance of tracer bullet with each shot fired.
5x larger trails than vanilla
Visual changes only - other stats unchanged.
All new ammo craftable in survival.

Due to Warfare 1 update changes i had to make decission. Either introduce 40 different mags in each color for each weapon, which would get riddiculous and clutter inventory immensely, or i could stick to "one-mag-fit-all" approach and slightly affect weapon balance. I chose the latter. So now all the rifles share same tracer ammo, and all the pistols share their tracer magazines.

To change ammo type in Rifle:
Drag Rifle on hotbar. Keep pressing Rifle's hotkey number to cycle through ammo types. (Make sure you have colored ammo in invetory)

To Change ammo type in Turrets:
Newly built turrets and out of ammo turrets will NOT switch. You will need to prime them with last used ammo magazine first (vanilla ammo if it's first use).
Place new ammo in Turret's inventory and let it shoot. Once old ammo is depleted it should automaticaly switch to next available ammo in turret's inventory.
Turrets will only pull last used ammo type. So make sure turret have disabled conveyor access before you try to switch, or it will keep pulling old ammo.
Note that in Creative Mode turrets never run out of ammo, therefore they can't switch to other ammo. Use Survival with Creative Tools enabled.

To change ammo type in Fixed Gatlings:
Put new ammo in Gun's inventory. Disable conveyor acces, or they will keep pulling old ammo type. Remove old ammo. Guns should switch to new ammo. If they run out of ammo they will automatically switch to another one. Seems they are less prone to get stuck than turrets.
If you are in control seat you can swap ammo by tapping guns hotkey, same way as with rifles.

Disclaimer:
Unfotunately, this is how Keen designed this system (ammo switch is vanilla feature). There is not much i can do to help with that without rewriting the whole thing, which would probably bring more bugs than benefits.

You can also use individual colour variants of Bullet Trail mod. They do not require separate ammo and are active right away, but you can use only one at a time. You can find them here:

I'm primarily looking for something that makes all the ship weapons in the game visually distinct, so a player getting shot can tell what's coming at them by color.

Are you using any other ammo/weapon mod? I have just tried, and it worked for me. Also, did any specific combination of weapon/ammo not working or any of them?

Also, it appears the rifle/pistole magazines don't color the tracers anymore

Can you update this to include the autocannons? Or maybe a separate mod?

unfortunately I tried to use this mod in my current save today, but the weapons don't automatically pull colored ammunition, if you could fix it that would be great, thank you

Yeah I've realised that, it's going to be some time before I get a chance to look at weapon cores ammo system and how to recreate this in that if I can.

i don't think it will work with weaponcore. As mentioned couple posts below, weaponcore have its own ammo system and wont work with stuff made for Keen's ammo.

I'm just trying to figure out how to get your ammo to work with Weapons core, I recently switch to PC from console and the only thing I miss is your ammo mod.

Not at the moment. But i sometimes get inspired and come back to the game to spend several weekends in a row messing with things.
