So you were smack on the money there. I'll just have to choose which mods I use depending on what world I'm working on.
I suppose a real solution would require me to make separate mod with weaponcore compatibility... and learnweaponcore which i don't really have time for to be honest.
Normal guns use their mags fine but absolutely REFUSE to even let your ammo into the Gatling guns inventory if that mod is enabled. I didn't try fixed gats because the turrets were the only ones I ran into this issue with. I'm testing it as I type this, just though I'd give an update on my issue here.
In vanilla though, if you want your tower to change ammo used you need to place both new ammo and single piece of old ammo in turret inventory and disable conveyor acces, so it does not replenish old ammo. The set it to constant fire until it runs out of last magazine. Then it should switch automatically to the only available ammo box. I did not found easy workaround for this. Sadly this is how Keen implemented multiple ammo types, no idea if weaponcore tried to improve on that.
Fixed guns and rifles are pretty easy in comparison. Just press their hotbar number again and they should cycle through available ammos. They may need to have different ammo placed in inventory before they fill up completely with the old one though.
Solarflare railgun is definitely possible, but not entirely what i was going for with this mod though.
Maybe odd question, how bright can you make the tracers? I'd imagine a solar flare bright Railgun round would be an interesting sight.
I've uploaded my tracer mods on Mod.io under same names, you can try those and see if there is any difference.
Ammo colors per faction has been suggested to me before and i like the idea. It's just adulting taking so much time that i am not modding anything at the moment.
Would love to get a different color for enemys as i use for myself

Do colored magazines all show up for You in Assembler crafting menu? Do you have actual colored magazine on you when firing? Bacause vanilla ammo is unchanged.

I tried pressing the rifle hotkey but it won't cycle. When I fired, only the default bullet tracer comes out
The Player has a precise automatic rifle with 5 clips - no color change
If you use turret, it may still be pulling other ammo via conveyor. If you're in creative, turrets have infinite ammo, so they may be reluctant to switch. I had to switch to survival during my tests to let them run out of ammo and switch to another type.
I am nut sure how much graphic settings can influence tracer particles visibility, try fiddling with that if you keep having issues.
If you'd like this tracer ammo used in other mods it would be possible in most cases. My mod provides definitions for ammo and magazines but it is modded weapons that would need to have my ammo listed in their available ammo types.
So I guess you'd have to convince other mod's authors to release edited version of their mod that uses my ammo. I'd rather not mess with other's work and reupload it.
