Description
Vanilla | Survival | No Subgrids | No Scripts | No DLC

A stylish hydrogen powered starship with a small hangar for rovers and stuff.

The S-40 is just a bit of everything. For it's size it flies quite well thanks to the powerful hydrogen thrusters. The 60ML tanks are plenty enough for a very long time and will also provide the hydrogen engines with fuel. Should you need to refill it with Ice, you can use it's single drill (although it's not the most comfortable to mine ice with it). It comes with all the necessities of an exploration ship, only lacking the large refinery. You won't need it really, this ship runs 100% on hydrogen (which is now way more viable since the last update).

With an upward acceleration of around 2.5 g you can fill it up with ore and won't have to worry about it crashing down on a planet. The for the size of this ship suprisingly roomy hangar should be able to hold pretty much every speeder bike, rover and perhaps even some small ships. Make sure they're properly secured though!

It's not a combat ship, but does have two rocket launchers for contingencies. I tried to make most crucial components reachable, only the gyroscopes and the grav gen are hidden away somewhere. The interior is split into two separately airtight spaces, the hangar and the bridge. Neither has a proper airlock though (doesn't make sense in a hangar).

The ship doesn't need any platinum or uranium at all and can thus be easily built on all planets. It also doesn't need any mods, DLCs, scripts, subgrids and doesn't even have any grinded down blocks. The color pattern is super basic and should be very easy to change should you wish to do so.

Did you ever create anything to park in the hangar?

Superb ship. Using mine as a long-range space prospector, to which end I've actually built a matching ion miner that fits neatly into the hanger instead of a rover.
If you are careful, the tanks last a very long time and are easy enough to refill once you put the drill on a piston, which I'd highly recommend. I had none of the air-leak issues other people have mentioned, was tight from the get-go.

Very happy with this ship. Was simple to build, easily modified to suit specific needs, has excellent lift capabilities (with every container filled + a miner docked inside and another one on a roof mounted connector I added, it still lifted easily enough at 1.00 gravity). Would absolutely recommend this ship to those who are looking for something that can do a bit of everything (I'd stay well away from combat with that many hydro tanks on display though).

Funny, I have an airtight hangar (even though I can see under the door through the wide crack), but the bridge area is not sealing. Haven't figure it out yet, maybe I too missed a block somewhere.

Same experience as @PaladinDrake. I stumbled onto the search keyword exploration, which led me here. Finally, a jump drive ship that isn't huge. Looks good too!

I was searching the workshop for hours for a ship like this. I wanted a pretty small large-grid ship with space for quarters and a hangar, something like the MSR from Star Citizen, and this fits the bill exactly. Thank you for posting it. It's going to be my main ship going forward.

This is my favorite ship honestly. I was able to retrofit the upstairs with a bed, shower, toilet. Added 4 solar panels that still makes it look good. I think I did a few more things but I can't remember. Lol.

I absolutely love this ship, it is continually my go-to for exploration. Aside from that, what is the station in the screenshots?

The Reclaimer has come a long way from it's humble exploration ship beginnings. I must thank you for designing such a nice hull shape. Although it's glaring weaknesses, it has evolved into one of the most formidable stealth combat ships to ever maraud on the official servers.

Just found one buried in ice, with the bodies of two engineers. I look forward to refurbishing it, and making it fly again.
