-Description-
Welcome to Rossokhov & Volomas! this is the second map i've made, and i would like to say its an improvement from my last, (not that Warstalensk is bad), the map is completely fictional, and is only loosely inspired by the USSR, the map is also completely hand made and has been made over the space of a couple weeks.
The map itself is split into two main landmasses, Rossokhov in the west, and Volomas in the east.
Rossokhov is the main focus of the map, with all the towns and settlements located there, Volomas on the other hand is practically uninhabited, and is mostly untouched.
The map features 3 main towns/cities and has multiple smaller settlements.
The map was created to resemble an area of a communist country that has fallen into a state of disrepair, with multiple roads and areas that are destroyed or derelict. there is also an abandoned construction project on the map too, (the M78) which you can read the context on in the context section.
The map encourages you to use a larger variety of transportation too, the most obvious of which being ships and boats, however there is space for planes and more simple modes of transportation too.
The map features lots of mountains along with some valleys, plenty of flatter areas, lots of big forests, more clear areas, a large body of water splitting the map in two which resembles a sea or large lake, a few streams, some marsh areas, and more smaller features.
The map also includes multiple customs posts, of which most are located on the Soviet border.

-Resources-
The map includes all the current resources.
  • Coal
  • Iron
  • Oil
  • Uranium
  • Bauxite
All of which are sufficient enough for industry without being too rich, if your unhappy with the resources there is a more and less resources version of the map. the resources are relatively spread out but most are around mountains, look at the resource maps to see for yourself.

-Context-
Rossokhov & Volomas, a relatively peaceful area of the Soviet Peoples Republic, featuring only a small agriculture industry, and small fishing efforts, in the past its been relatively untouched by the state, however this has now changed.
Due to the expansion and growth in importance of the city of Gorkra 20 miles away, a new highway has been designed, the M78, to connect Gorkra to other existing highways in the west, the best route for placing this new highway is straight through Rossokhov and Volomas. At first the news of this connection going through Rossokhov was exciting, as the M78 was planned to pass through Rossokhov city and also because no such route had ever connected them to the rest of the state before, as previously the people had to rely country roads which snowed over during the winter. And so construction began on this new project, it would also create the Rossokhov Crossing, an new bridge crossing connecting the two landmasses of Rossokhov and Volomas.
As work continued, things seemed promising. Until winter came however. because of the surprising amount of snow the winter brought with it, construction was halted, at first it was not a major problem, that changed however when resources and vehicles left waiting at Rossokhov were diverted to be used in new infrastructure projects at the capital, it was expected that new vehicles and resources would arrive in the summer to continue the project, however this was not the case, due to new projects appearing all over the state, the M78 was pushed to the back of the queue of construction priorities, and had been left half completed. Subsequently this has decreased the peoples opinion of the state in Rossokhov, and has left the area reluctant to rely on the state for new construction efforts in the area.
However the regions themselves can also be to blame for what little efforts have been made to improve themselves, as nothing has been done to improve existing roads and infrastructure across the regions, meaning that roads have been falling into disrepair. and so the regions have never progressed economically.
Another blow to the area has been the very recent shutdown of the small military airfield on the edge of Rossokhov, resulting in the loss of more then 200 jobs. Previously the air force was a large employer for the people of Rossokhov, as the airfield there was a key training facility for new pilots due to its great location, as the local airspace was unpopulated. however the airfield was decommissioned and left without any new purpose, due to newer and better facilities appearing elsewhere.
So seeing the areas history we can agree it has been very unprosperous. But that is where you come in Comrade, you have been tasked to oversee and design new industries and infrastructure in the area. Perhaps your first move will be to complete the section of the M78 in the area, or to create new jobs in Rossokhov, but it is up to you comrade! go make the people proud!

I just wanted to pop in and say that this map is great. In a 1960 start, my main focus has obviously been restoring the M78 corridor. This... has not been easy. I finished the M78 highway itself in 1965 (as a single-lane asphalt road only), and the double-track rail link is still in progress. Just building the rail bridges across the isthmus took more than a year. Great stuff.

Other things I like:

*The map encourages water traffic.
*You start with some reasonable infrastructure already in place.
*Churches in every town center.
*The layout of the towns and villages is very flavorful. Connecting these tiny and remote settlements, and growing them into urban centers in their own right, is a great feeling.
*The distribution of resources is reasonable and encourages long-term planning.
*The map is meticulously and beautifully detailed, with picturesque landscapes and lots of little details everywhere.

10/10. I think this is going to be my default map for the foreseeable future.

@Sausage and mash
Its okay. I really like the map, only getting rid of some buildings to properly build up communism is not that hard anyways. I especially like the infrastructure, and quasi-lore it has.

@BohhY i'm just gonna come out and be honest, my answer will probably be no, I've been burnt out of making maps for games, at least for now anyway. chances are i'm not going back to make another variation of this map, the best i can offer you is the normal version of the map, with the infrastructure and buildings. sorry for disappointing you, but i really don't see it happening. But thanks for showing interest in the map, it means a lot to me to see people still using these maps and paying them attention, even if i myself have moved on from them. sorry again, but i hope you still enjoy the existing map.

Can we get no population, but with all the infrastructure ?
