Sand Timer

Description
UPDATE:
- New Sand Timer version added that sets off an alarm once time has run out
- New Pause button that pauses/unpauses timers

A Sand Timer component for use in your own mod.

My goal with this mod was to capture the utility of a real sand timer. So while creating a digital timer with an alarm that signals time running out would ultimately be the most accurate kind of timer, I wanted to preserve the experience players would have with a real sand timer where one needs to see if sand is still trickling down to know whether time is up.

My hope is that using this type of sand timer for your game mods will help preserve the authenticity of your physical game as it makes its transition into digital form.

Key Features:
- Flip to start timer, just like a real sand timer
- Easy to set custom duration (in seconds)
- Can be tinted any color

I'd love the ability to change the alarm sound to various things that are setting-relevant!

@Dr. Snickity Sure thing! No problem at all. Play around with the timer all you want. Apologies for the late reply as well.

Hi! I made some edits to your timer to make it suitable for VR. Would you be okay with me uploading my own version (linking back to here), or would you prefer to take my changes into consideration?

The changes include making - and + buttons (as inputs don't work in VR), and rate-limiting them and the pause button (as the buttons get spammed when clicked normally in VR. These are both longstanding issues the game devs haven't fixed.)

I also combined the alarm and non-alarm versions and added a bool near the top to toggle it, rather than having different objects. Lastly, I turned off the tooltips, as they are very in-your-face (literally) in VR.

@TrilbyMonster Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply, yes, the sounds were unfortunately done through Unity, so there isn't an easy way to change the alarm. Should others request this feature though, I'll be happy to oblige. :)

I would really love to know how I can change the sound of the alarm :). I want to do something a bit more atmospheric for my game. I'm guessing I'd have to somehow get the unity project and change the sound file there?

This is amazing. Thanks!

Why TTS doesn't have something like this by default still baffles me. Thanks!

@Cliffball
Understood. What you mentioned can certainly be done and I'll certainly consider to make it available in the next update. These first few timers function the way I believe most players would want their timers to work, but rest assured that I will be constantly updating this mod to cater to user requests such as yours. So keep them coming. :)

I think what Schulmpf is trying to say is that the timer doesn't start from the time remaining upon flipping like a real sand timer does. Aesthetically, this looks great, but functionally, it's the same as a regular timer with an hourglass skin. Is there any way to add functionality to make it so that if, for example, you set a 3 minute timer and flip it; after one minute has elapsed, when you flip it again, there will be 1 minute of sand at the top and 2 minutes of sand at the bottom? Great mod, looks great, and easy to use otherwise. Thanks!

@Schlumpf
This behavior was intentional. If you're looking for a way to pause the timer, that feature is coming up. :)
