Radiant Custom Pacing

Description

This mod cleverly and subtly slower the pace of your game to make your playthrough less rushed and neglected. It's my biggest project for this game, I took ages to tweak it to the tiniest details and I'm still playing my games to keep improving it. I'm a big fan of the first and second Opus of Civilization games and wanted to take back that awesome pace they both had.

There are 3 popular mods that help you to slow the pace of civilization 6 : "8 Ages of Pace", "Extended Eras" and "Slower Pace". I played a lot of games with each one of those and their impact on the game is so essential I can't imagin playing vanilla anymore. Because it's a fact, whatever the speed you choose, science and culture ever growing values will snowball everything to ♥♥♥♥.

But those 3 pacing mods are far to be perfect to my eyes, so I decided to do a "perfect' version of mine, with my own finds while of course including the best ideas of them. It took me months of testings and adjustements, but I'm now finally happy to say I succeeded with this. I really think it should be the most advanced and clever "slower pace" mod out there.

  • More Population control and less power from it - Slower population growth, Slower border grow, Culture and Science they produce are nerfed. Population value was indeed a too powerful tool, as a result the player with the bigger population was often the winner. Now your people number is not everything, you will now have to rely more on your ressources, trades, policies and Science/Civic districts buildings and adjacent bonuses, to get ahead.

  • Longer Eras - Values that slows the pace of Eras but not by acting uniformly on all tech and civics costs, but more like following clever curves that aim to extend the most exctiting times. On the top of that, despite your science and culture growing more and more powerful, the eras won't feel like they are accelerating (too much) down a slope. Golden/Dark Ages, Great Persons unlockings and powers, War Grievances, World Congress Meetings, Climate Changes ... A maximum of parameters have been taken in consideration, all those variables have been tweaked accordingly so nothing feels afoot.

  • Magnetizing the players into the current Era - Late players will be more easily able to catch up the rest of the world, and on the other side early players will have hard time to get further ahead. This way, there will be hope for everyone and the game will stay interresting for a way longer time.

  • Nerfing boosts - The Science and Culture boosts hunts won't be able to hurt the tech and civic progress that much. In my opinion, that concept of boost is the king of the pace breakers in the new Civilization games. So those will now only provide 20% bonus instead of 40%.

  • Road Speed Improved - Tons of mods incorporate that kind of changes and if you still don't have one of them, it will now be covered with mine. As a matter of a fact, roads are somewhat too slow in vanilla to a point it is not even close to be realistic.

  • Harder Diplomatic Win - It's about time we do something for the most annoying and easy win. The Congress meeting now being diluted in our extended pace, the diplomatic points are not flowing like a river anymore.

  • Stronger Cities - Since the pace will be slower, I decided to make the war against cities longer and more delicate. Districts will have little more HPs, walls, a stronger defense (not attacks) so Cities will be undeniably harder to take. City-States will be granted with a early free exclusive wall and will most of times have a better defense than Players. It will also prevent warmonger players to take them at the beginning.

It should be compatible with every mod since it only adds a few independant lines/values in already existing & adequate data tables.

You can find all my mods by searching "Radiant" in steam workshop, nexus, or civfanatics, which is a recurrent word in all my mod's tittles.

Even if they represent hundreds of working hours, I'm sharing my mods for free like most of mod creators. But deep down I'm really hoping you to do that little extra thing that would help me a lot : joining any of my pages (patreon, facebook, instagram). Just that really! Don't feel obliged to give something, with Patreon there is indeed a free option that grants you basic news/content and it will only take few seconds of your time. That being said I'm an artist irl and I sometimes struggle to put my personal projects on the saddle. By giving a little something or joining my ranks you can trigger a course of actions/reactions that might end up gathering more people around, thus helping me building the motivation and means to create more stuff to appreciate.

Good day! I subscribed recently your Mod. Question: do you have any suggestion about diffivulty level, map size or speed? I mean, is it designed to work at deity level - marathon speed, or does it work "like vanilla", at any size, speed and level? Thanks.

oh and I love: More Population control and less power from it. I searched for something like this for years <3

Hey, do you know if this mod works in combination with "Customization VI" and "Take Your Time"? Both have options to increase/decrease some of the values you already changed. You think these mods would automatically change science etc... seing your modded values as default?

Is this mod current with the latest version?

Thanks for answer :) I actually loved Civ II coz of game simplicity - ONE tech tree and u just research stuff - no bullcrap like culture and faith and other useless in my eyes crap - but there is no way to remake whole tech tree to be just done by "science" points and remove culture / faith entirely from game :) but also Civ II took long enough to enjoy eras and all those units so I really needed mod like urs in Civ VI

P.S: I prefered when units didn't have "ranged" attack and all combad was in meele range no matter what unit was it in Civ II :P but thats maybe my BOOMER mentality and nostaliga how I used to play Civ.

@Woj To be honest I totally rocked it, don't be influenced by the low subscriptions (it's very low because I started to build the mod a long time ago, thus appear far away in the workshop list for its subs/time ratio) I don't think I ll ever use another pace mod than mine that's how sure I am. I made it to be really agreable to play in "epic" speed, standard speed works pretty nice too. But if you choose marathon, you will have damn long games (but who knows, may be it ll be someone's sweet spot). If i could give you an idea, your game will be around +30 to 50% slower, with eras getting more equal number of turns (cleverly taking science/culture scaling output in consideration). The final idea will remind you of Civ I, II and III pace.
