Description
BBW Loki

Why use this?
Loki has many magical trickster powers to keep you from being stuck.

A light ship to shore tender means moving yourself and survivors easily. Highly reliable against getting stuck upside down at sea or on shore. Light weight and small size also place less demands on the bigger ship you put it on.

Stormlink seating set for 6.

Key words:
Tender, trickster, reliable, light weight, rescue, roll recovery, beach, moveable, electric, small, low cost

Trickster-spirits like Loke the Norse god or Coyote of the Americas use cunning to escape dangers. Such a term fits well for this tender. Its very reliable in how it gets you places and if things go wrong you can use its tricks to still get back.

Intentionally sized small makes it easier to place, launch and recover. The size is such that you dismounted you can swim-tow in bursts; run-push on land and even barrel roll it on land quite quickly. This land movement is foreign to most RHIBs. Loki is one you can work up the beach clear of the water no longer worrying if waves will take it away.

If ashore or ranging too far diesel runs out. Loki uses an electric drive with solar panels which in theory could recharge the boat over game daylight hours to get back. This also means uses it has minimal affect on your mothership’s diesel fuel. Docked hookup is much easier by simply connecting a cable.

There is decent handheld gear for use by landing parties for searching for survivors inland of the beach. This tender can be worked up the beach freeing you of drift-away concerns while doing extended land search patterns. Handheld gear is a diverse set outside of the large outfit boxes includes:
= fire extinguisher
= defibrillator
= cable
= rope
= medical kits
= flashlight
= binoculars
= compass

The boat is manageable in wind levels up to 60% with good handling even up to 50% winds.

Loki is very roll resistant. In the event it does happen, like deliberately hitting docks to do so, it can be player righted. That’s a trick rare in RHIB boats. First of all the motor automatically cuts out if you fall off so Loki won’t leave you. To right it use one of the mid-side handles in tether mode. Then jump-climp onto the back of the boat. Run and jump on the far side. This may take a few attempts. Even in calm water the tender flips upright.

On land the pilot’s seat acts like a roll bar to keep it rolling. Even if it does stop upside down it will tilt. The player can jump-push this tender to roll again. The flat beaching bottom will likely catch it and there you go, its done a trick!

In addition to the pilot’s seat there are six (6) bench seats. This handles many rescues where you need to either pick them up at a random shore or drop them off at a hospital.

Though range is finite it is quite good. As an example from the Creative dock you can sail out of the bay, roam around for several minutes and still have plenty of power left to return to the dock. This far exceeds normal ship-shore ranges. Transferring between islands or along long rivers isn’t what tenders really do.

>>

Controls are simple keeping withing the limited volume. From the pilot seat:
A/D is the rudders for gentle turning
W/S isn’t used so instead use the buttons on the throttle box
(throttle is limited to 0.20 to avoid rapid battery draining)
1 = master power
(when on and you are in the seat the backlight on the compass and battery dial will turn on)
2 = Motor power
(using 2 again cuts the motor so you will coast to a stop)
3 = Reverse gear
4 = Bow light facing forward

Toggle button for docking connectors is now used as it allows to start “on” for quick grab when copy-pasted onto motherships.

The docking connectors were three (3) wide but reduced to one (1) after what appeared to be game update related forced spins on spawn.
Motor loses power whenever the player isn’t in the pilot seat (deadman’s switch).

Mass: 290
(well below 1,000)
Cost: ~$6,500

Top seed: Not known.
No room for a speed/range MC or displays. Throttle and gearing set for a “fair” speed for a tender. Visual estimate around 10 knots which is fine for getting around a bay.

Receiving dock

Suggest a center connectors with a small winch right above the center one. The winch will be able to pull Loki up a ramp of 1x1x1 wedges. Previously this was a row of three (3) connectors to match the original Loki but now ship’s spawned with the tender have the mothership going into a spin in the dock (game bug). The single connector to single connector doesn’t have this issue.

>>

Other Commentary:
= Light weight is part of the player can correct flips
= Light weight means less affect on the mothership’s balance
= Range is finite though quite long for ship-shore duties
= Technically, other than the overall range, this is a starter boat capable of many rescue type duties
= Multiplayer suitability is for getting the team ashore and moving passengers
= Rope lines could be used to tow cargo
= Moving small parcels that lack rope ties will be tricky

Update:
Beefed up the sensitivity on the a/d rudder. It is very slow to turn which is fine from ship to shore. Precise movement like lining up to dock its simpler to get in the water and swim tow a general aim.

Update to a single docking connector.
It was fine before but as of a mini-update to the game today on spawning with tender docking to the mothership the larger mothership would spin in the dock. Switching the single connector seems to fix this problem.
As always it is good to use the rope anchors (1 at bow, 2 at stern) to secure the Loki to the mothership in the event that either the mother or Loki lose electrical power.

I was going to change the central bow connector to the electrical type but there can be scenarios where if you drain the mothership battery you would have drained your tender. You might want the Loki to still have power for rescue or assists. So you would need a manual interaction to decide that which is the same as using the intended cable connection already on the stern top.

Update:
Corrected the rear upright to cable connector for power hookups as was first intended. Had "electrical connector" there which is a docking port function
