Description
Please read the description in order to have the most success with this

These are the base components needed for an APN missile. This also includes extras such as roll stabilization (meaning you can launch inverted) and a relay so your battery doesn't drain when it isnt fired.

Usage guide:
To go from this to a missile you will need to add a few things, most notably more stabilization fins and more rockets/propulsion. Remember, in order for the logic nodes to not be disconnected when moving the kit using the selection tool, you must select the cut option (instead of the copy option). This kit can be used to make a base solid rocket powered missile, and can also be converted for different types of propulsion with a few modifications.

Info:
-Labeled outputs
-All base components included (rear stabilization fins, roll stabilization fins and guidance fins and more)
-Single rocket included to see where to connect it to
-Similar systems featured on my L240 and my L50 missiles

Would you like to upload the missiles you build with this?
If you decide to upload the missile you make or a vehicle that uses it you are welcome to do so, no need to ask for permission in the comments. I cant wait to see what come up with! I do ask, however, that you link to the kit in the description of your post.
Reminder: Do not reupload the kit itself

Known Issues:
Due to the nature of radars in this game, it is possible for a target to be quite close and not be visible on radars. I cannot fix this as this is a limitation of radars in the game.

Special Thanks To:
Sinister Minister, EGG and Kubson for helping me work on the microcontroller for the missile.

Questions, Comments, Thoughts?
Leave a comment if you have any feedback for me. I will do my best to read them and reply to any questions you may have.

What exactly does "APN" mean?
APN is a missile guidance law that stands for Augmented Proportional Navigation. This means that the missile will lead any moving target in the direction that it is moving in order to get a direct hit.

still works fine and hit planes very well! i just added fins and boosters

Thanks, this should help alot. I'm gonna use this in conjunction with my anti-chaff data sorter to cause some havoc lol.

The function was adapted to work specifically with stormworks parts, I do not believe that there is any specific documentation for how the function works.

@Upsurge I figured out my issue and have done a bit more research on the math behind APN missile guidance and I found it to be really interesting. I still don't fully understand exactly how the math works for the global angles part though. Do you know if there is any documentation or explanation that I could find behind how that function in specific works?

I would check your fin node connections. Make sure that on both sides of the missile the fins are in the same orientation. You can see the orientation from the arrows above and below the fin. Other than that im not sure, you can try taking one of my existing missiles and see how everything is wired on that.

@Upsurge thanks for the explanation, I tried using some of the guidance logic in my own missile and ran into a bit of a problem though. Whenever it comes within range of the target it won't actually steer towards it and it will just shake up and down and left to right really quickly. I tried lowering the navigation constant, but it doesn't seem to help because the same things happens just slightly less intense.

The function converts the relative angles of the radar to global angles which are locked to the world orientation. In simple terms, this is needed so the missile knows whether it is the target that is actually moving, or if the missile is just moving relative to the target (like if the target is stationary and the missile is not aimed directly at it). Glad to see people are still playing around with this kit and learning from it.

Simply out of curiosity, how does the math in the lua script work? I tried to look at the script and understand it and I think I understand the APN part but what does the first function do where it uses a bunch of trig functions on the elevation and azimuth? Sorry for my lack of understanding, just got into building missiles and I'm currently trying to learn more.

I have not figured out how to make the new radars work with apn yet. They still are lacking in their performance. If you want a warhead on it put the radar distance target through a threshold gate and then the output of that to the warhead

I am actually thinking of base for ICBM that GPS guided but also with targeting system that can hit any ship in the map wherever it is
