The Forgotten

Description
Are you tired of Dacia being Greek?
Of Scythia having Seafaring heritage?
Of Pontus not being Pontic?
Be tired no more!

This mod expands on the content of various regions of the map that either lack flavour or are outright weird.
It's meant to be close to vanilla, so you won't see stuff you might expect from larger overhauls like new units, trade goods, an expansion to the map, etc.

The mod includes:
  • Two new military tradition trees based on the principle of "narrow adaptability" - you can embrace tradition trees from many other cultures, but will only get one tree rather than both
  • 20 new heritages
  • Two new unit model sets
  • A few more minor changes

If you enjoy this mod, please do give it a rating! Ratings are super important for visibility so that more people can discover it! :)

Compatible with 2.0.2 Marius
Probably requires all the DLC for the unit models but should otherwise run fine without them.

Try unsubscribing and resubscribing first if the mod doesn't work for you!

THE BALKANS:
The Balkan region now has its own military tradition tree, shared between the Illyrians, the Dacians and the newly split off Thracians.
They can embrace Italic Tribe (but not Roman), Celtic (but not Britannic), Persian Rural (but not Persian) and Greek (actually both) traditions.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Illyrian, Dacian and Thracian will no longer count towards the Embracement of Greek traditions in other trees.
Cultural Heritages were added for countries with Thracian, Dacian, Illyrian and Getian primary culture. Country-specific heritages were added for Dardania and Odrysia.
Dacians and Thracians get their own new unit models while Illyria uses Iberian models.
Dacian culture has been split into two new groups, a Dacian group for the "core"-Dacians north of the Danube and a new Thracian group for those south of it.
Neither the new tree nor the Thracian models will be used by Lysimachus Hellenistic Thrace at game start.

IBERIA (not that one)
Iberia got its own military tradition tree. Iberians intially will only have access to the Iberian tree, while Celtiberians have access to both it and Celtic - but have lost access to Britannic traditions.
The Iberian tree leads into Italic Tribe (but not Roman), Celtic (but not Britannic) and Punic (but not Numidian) traditions.
NOTE: Iberian will no longer count towards the Embracement of Celtic traditions in other trees. Celtiberian still does.
Cultural heritages were added for the whole Iberian culture group and one each for countries of Carpetanian, Celtiberian (culture, not group), Cantabrian, Asturian, Callaecian, Celtician, Lusitanian, Vettonian and Vaccaeian culture. Country-specific heritages were added for Turdetania and Arevacia.

PONTUS
Pontus got a fix to make it the Greco-Persian hybrid it was always meant to be.
The "Embrace Graeco-Pontic traditions" event now adds Pontic as primary culture and Cappadocian as accepted, while while also giving access to Persian traditions - so now you'll have both them and Hellenic traditions! You can decide to stay Cappadocian to play as an un-hellenized version of Pontus.
This also means that after you move the capital to Sinope, you will have access to the "The Hospitable Sea" mission tree.
You will still have to integrate Paphlagonian culture manually.

SCYTHIA AND SARMATIA
Scythia and Sarmatia have received their own heritages and now have gender equality enabled.

MESSENIA
I've removed Messenia from the Arkadian League because it annoys me when I play Sparta.

COMPATIBILITY:
This actually changes quite a lot, way more then I anticipated and the way modding on Imperator works, this inevitably means that maintaining maximum compatibility to other mods is very hard.
First, the obvious: no, it does not work with Ironman.
It will not work with anything modifying heritages. It should work with new unit models as long as they're not defined for the cultures I modified. It will probably not work with anything modifying those cultures in general. It should work with localization mods, but obviously won't be localized for those languages. It should theoretically work with mods creating new traditions, but there might be weird, undesired overlaps.

It has been tested and should be compatible with the following:
- Bloodlines 2.0
- various "Console enable"-mods like this one
- Always Show Christian / Gregorian Date
- Better UI

If you know any good mods you'd like to see integrated because they're otherwise incompatible, tell me in the comments and I will see whether I think it's a good fit and hit up the creators to ask them for permission to include their content. If you use any popular mods that happen to be compatible, you may also mention them and I'll add them to the list above.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- Dacian and Thracian use the same naming lists; I'll look into possibly separating those. - Gives a bunch of errors about the new models, will look into that in the future

PLEASE REPORT ANY BUGS YOU FIND IN THE COMMENTS
Be as concrete as possible and make sure it's not caused by another mod or lack of DLC.

PLANNED STUFF:
- Germanic military traditions and heritages
- and more!

CREDITS

A big thank you to the following fellow creators who let me use their work:
RivtalDM for allowing me to use the military traditions from Gladio et Sale. Check it out for a more comprehensive overhaul of the game!
Conqueror for the new unit models for Dacia - You can find the entire updated Old World Armoury here!
Graf Nepomuk for allowing me to port all the amazing unit models from Call to Arms: The Ancient World

Additionally, I want to thank all the members of the Imperator Mod Coop for helping me with my numerous questions and for having a gigantic list of modding resources so I wouldn't have to dig for all of them in the gamefiles myself. :)

Could you take your busted nonupdated mod down then please so others don't get screwed up?

And yes it can cause the problems I am mentioning because that is what happened. When I removed your mod and started a new game without it everything is now working fine.

So.... yeah. No offense. Not trying to be a jerk but a little miffed that I lost two advanced saved games and many hours. If your mod isn't supported anymore please remove it.

a) This hasn't been updated in four years, so bugs or outright incompatibility are to be expected.
b) There is no possible way for a mod, and specifically this mod, to do that. That is some error with the Launcher or your game or even your PC.

This mod broke my saves. Even now when I've uninstalled it it still seems to be breaking new saves that don't even contain the mod. It keeps showing up in my playset even though I've unsubbed and have removed the mod from the playset.

Pretty pissed...

I just saw something about integrating this mod with Imperator: Invictus, has this been done or is it even compatible?

Hey, I'm working on some tradition trees for another mod and can't figure out how to pair up the trees correctly - I looked through your files and also can't see where they're named together. Could you tell me how the order in which they're displayed is decided?
Doldenberg  [author] 6 Jun, 2021 @ 6:50am
@Baldilocks: Gladio et Sale should have backported all the military tradition changes already; I don't know about the heritages etc. It will probably not be compatible to have both mods because files will overlap and GeS does various cultural redefines.

@Hans_Hackfresse: Sorry for answering late, the unlock should work as in vanilla, there's no special extra setup to unlock the decisions in the changes I made. You can find the vanilla requirements in the Official Wiki.

Hey Devs, thank you for your great work so far, mod is looking god - but im having trouble as pontus, The "Embrace Graeco-Pontic traditions" event dont unlock the decisions for moving my capitol to sinope or embracing the hellenistic pantheon, can you help me?

@nerdman3000 you should do a teaser mod through Steam, post on Reddit. and whatever other forums to get the word out I'm excited hearing about it.
