Update 2023 07 23 to Fraser 14500

Why use this boat?
= It works
= You can fix it
= You can get it off beaches
= You get to sleep in doors (if you get doors)

Plus...
= Classic career starter boat
= Accessible engines for fire fighting and repair
= Make money with rescues, parcels, packages or passenger service
= Upgrade plans listed
= “Catcher’s mit” to better hold parcels during rough seas

The Fraser is the Brygun Brain Works entry for a “Classic Career” starter boat limited by starting technology, price and dock size.

Updated 2023 07 23 due to the dev making various changes to the game since first release and now within the now $15,000 or less budget. My notes on original values was a price of $13,847 where the dev side changes made is cross over the $15,000 budget and lose the availability of the electrical radiator fans.

A handheld transponder locator has been added to the pilot house front wall. Although I personally don’t rely on them compared to doing pattern searches it was a reasonable request. The better vehicle parts need to be unlocked by research.

It has sufficient gear and speed for initial missions along with a long range, if fully fueled, for exploring. Initial funds will spawn enough fuel for nearby missions though you may wish to fill up from a gantry.

It is presented in styling for the Canadian Coast Guard with flag representations done hull paint as paintable blocks are not initially available. Of course one can adapt this to their own country.

As hatches are still locked it is not possible to access the lower compartments until you have that researched. 3X3 windows are already places at the recommended places for hatches. Suggestions for the compartments are listed below.

There is very capable Engine Control Unit (ECU) onboard that can function with tilt sensors, linear sensors and instrument panels. For now it is watching out for overheating engines. The manual engine shutdown on the dashboard is good to use before getting off the boat.

On the stern deck the partially roofed area is there for holding parcels or packages from mods.

Seating capacity for Stormlink is eight (8) using “?pcap 8”.

For the player there the pilot house has a bed with stores underneath. Use the bed to accelerate time between missions.

Outfits are not initially unlocked so consider obtaining an arctic suit from a rescue mission vessel. The outfit storage under the bed can recharge diving equipment. As ship compass are not unlocked a handheld compass is useful with one by the foot of the bed with a pair of binoculars. Night vision binoculars, flashlight and a space for recharging small handhelds is also under the bed.
Medical supplies consist of a defibrillator under the bed and medical kits under some passenger seats.

Welding supplies, normal and underwater, are under the bed along with a fire extinguisher. Another fire extinguisher is on the bow for grabbing on the way ashore or jumping over to another boat.

Debeaching is done best by pushing at a run. The best positions to push into are the bow ladder notches, the stern arch between the propellers and if it rolls under the sides. No winches are needed to get off the beach. This means if there is no dock or similar to tie a rope to you can put the boat on beach while you deal with the land side of things like getting rescues to the hospital.

Priced to leave room in starter budget for useful fuel for the first mission. More fuel can be added at the starter dock gantry as well.

For speed: 21.4 km @ 12 m/s ~23 knots
Gear alpha off; gear beta on

For Range: ~101 km at 7.1 m/s ~13.8 knots
Gear alpha on; gear beta on
Will lose speed in hard turns so once on new heading turn a gear off briefly

Gear alpha on beta off is useful for fast towing with more torque but less propeller turns giving less speed

Gear alpha off beta off (all off) is the most torque, easiest engine start but slowest propeller turns

>>

One of the pictures now shows it tied in the starter dock. This bow first and on two front rope anchors. This is a balanced position that keeps it pretty stable while preventing it flowing out of the dock. This is useful early game when using the bed to pass time to convert research points to something useable or waiting for the next distress call.

The dock anchors are from:

Plans for upper deck:
Door on the back of the pilot house.
Small searchlights pointing to the sides for when docking or alongside vessels.
Fluid turret for fire fighting on the bow.
Robot pivot for large searchlight to allow up-down aiming.
Engine change 2 x small for 4 x small or 2 x medium engines.

Plans for lower compartments:
Requires unlocking technology including a hatch for the game to keep seeing them as bouyant.

Bow:
Under deck fittings related to having a fluid turret for fire fighting. Possibly the seawater intake for that purpose to be located here or in a more aft compartment.

Under pilot:
There is a narrow section at the front of the compartment with enough space to stand up.
Move bed here and use the pilot house space for a medical bed. Outfit this cabin with decorations for a galley.
Also suitable for storing small parcels.

Midship and aft fuel compartment:
Can be changed to large fuel tanks
Crew supplies of outfits and handhelds.
Alternate for small parcel storage.
Bilge pumps.

Stern compartment:
Storage.
Possible change from small propellers to an azimuth thruster on a robotic pivot.

Vessels in the BBW “river” series:

This series began with what I feel is a necessary presentation for a qualified Stormworks designer is their own version of starter boats. A theme of the Canadian Coast Guard was selected largely as this is my homeland of Canada with one of the largest coast lines of the world plus massive river and lake networks. The boats are named for major rivers in Canada and/or the people those rivers were themselves named after. The general shape of the boat is maintained throughout with only slight changes in hull shape.

Thanks folks! I came by just checking on things. Wow 2,000 subs.
MrBeast toy and jordygrow: thank you. Its nice to hear personal views.
Working to the very limited budget was tough. That is part of engineering though. Having "constraints".

This boat is actually great.

Reminder this is for "Classic" game mode start. For a "Career" mode start consider the McKenzie:

(though apparently the Devs have also changed budgets there too)

Minor update: Having learned from Thelon changed the side ladder positions to add a fall off guard for when switching from the pilot house to boat sides. This will cut down on the falling off into the water.

Updated 2023 07 23:
= Testing it myself the dev's changed base game issues on money and what radiators there are... soo... I released an update to that
= handheld transponder locator added to bow of the pilot house. Don't use them much myself but an operator was asking for one. Did manage to fit in the new budget.
= Have successfully test spawned a classic career start with this version (2023 07 23)

@DeathGollum97 this boat is made for the very start of classic career so only the handheld transponder locator was an option. I don't find them reliable but have decided to add it into today's update.
DeathGollum97 23 Jul, 2023 @ 1:59am
Where is the transponder??
