Custom Spawn Fallen Empires [3.14 / 4.0]

Description
Mod works with both 3.* and 4.* version of Stellaris.

With this mod Fallen Empires will spawn with the species of one of your preset and custom empires 100% of the time (in the unmodded game the chance is 5%). To be valid custom empires need to be allowed to spawn and Fallen Empires can only spawn as species of empires that have an appropriate ethic: materialistic, spiritualistic, xenophobic, or xenophile. There is also a bug in the game that prevents empires with randomly generated names from spawning. Make sure to manually enter the name of any custom empires you want to spawn.

Note that when the game spawns a FE it will first determine the ethic of the FE and only then go looking for an appropriate custom/premade empire to use. If it finds none it will create a random empire. This means that if you want to consistently spawn custom empires as fallen empires you will need to create a custom empire for each one of the FE flavors (spiritualist, materialist, xenophile, xenophobe and machine intelligence) and use a mod that prevents the default premade empires from spawning.

The two preset human empires are a special case because they are set to not be allowed to spawn normally in the game files. Instead they get spawned by special triggers, but while that allows them to appear in a game they will not show up as fallen empires.

Custom empires that are forced to spawn will spawn as normal empires and will not be eligible to become FEs. Exception: if you have more empires forced to spawn than there are AI empires in the game, some won't spawn as normal empires, which will then presumably make them eligible to spawn as FEs.

It has also been reported that if you want a specific custom empire spawn as a FE, you can't use their portrait for your own empire. That will prevent that custom empire from spawning as a FE.

Fallen empires that are only generated because a regular empire has the Scion origin (for example if the galaxy has been set not to spawn any FEs) are not affected by this mod and will always be random.

NOTIFICATION (March 2025)

I'm currently burned out on Stellaris and moved back to Crusader Kings. Eventually I'll come back and update all my mods, but I make no promises on the timeframe. In the mean time I give my blessing to anyone who wants to make an up-to-date re-release of my mods. I'd just appreciate a mention as the original creator. Now back to the mod.

Dude, you made an INCREDIBLY useful mod that I was missing so much... I hope you can develop this idea and improve it in some way. I rarely leave comments, but you deserve it. THANKS!

Btw is there a way to force spawn only specific fallen empires? Like I want only the materialist, spiritualist and the xenophobic ones to spawn.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

This still works as the 1 line was unaffected in 4.0

Got it, thank you.

The only way to make this work 100% for Scion is to play a huge galaxy with 5 FEs and make sure you have enough spiritualistic and materialistic custom empires that not all of them will be used up for the regular AI empires.

For Scion's FEs it sometimes works, but not always. The way Scion works is it checks if there's a materialist or spiritualist FE in the galaxy and if neither one exists it spawns one of them randomly.

If the materialist/spiritualist FE was spawned normally, this mod will have an effect and the FE will try to base itself on one of your materialist/spiritualist custom empires that are allowed to spawn. If you have no such custom empires it will be random. And if there is no materialist or spiritualist FE in the galaxy and the origin spawns one, that one will always be totally random, even if you have a suitable custom empire for it to base itself on.

Does this also work with Scions' FEs?

That is good to know. Thank you for sharing.
