Grains and Brewing

Description

Grains and Brewing is an agricultural expansion adding new grain crops, alcoholic drinks, and a pre-industrial method of food preservation - pickling.

New Grains:
  • Sorghum has an average yield and growth time compared to the other grains, and needs decent soil to grow.
  • Millet grows very quickly, but has a middling yield compared to other grains.
  • Rye can be grown in poor soil, but produces the lowest yield of the grains.

New Alcohol:
  • Mash can be made from grain at the Brewery and placed in the appropriate fermenter to age into an alcoholic drink.
  • Baijiu is a strong liquor that increases rest rate when drunk. The longer it ages, the higher the quality of the resulting drink. It can be produced from mashed sorghum placed into a baijiu pot to ferment.
  • Raksi is a cheap, clear alcohol that that warms the drinker, increasing their resistance to cold temperatures. It can be produced from mashed millet placed into a raksi still to ferment.
  • Kvass is a nearly non-alcoholic beverage that slightly increases social impact. It can be produced from rye processed into unfermented kvass and left to rot at a warm temperature.

Vinegar and Pickling:
  • Vinegar is a new healthy condiment that can be produced from alcohols via fermentation. It lowers blood sugar, reduces cholesterol, and suppresses appetite, but can cause toothaches.
  • Vinegar can be combined with food at the Condiment Prep Table to create pickles. Pickled food has a greatly increased shelf life, but tastes less fresh than regular food and can raise blood pressure in high amounts.

Other features:
  • Wheat from Vanilla Cooking Expanded now drops raw wheat instead of flour.
  • Adds a recipe at the Condiment Prep Table to make flour from grains.
  • If SeedsPlease is enabled, specific plants will grow wild in certain biomes, including some modded ones (check Integration for more details).

  • Vanilla Cooking Expanded: Wheat now drops Raw Wheat instead of Flour.
  • Vanilla Brewing Expanded: Drinks can be mixed into cocktails for effects.
  • Vanilla Fishing Expanded: Adds Pickled Fish.
  • Vanilla Plants Expanded: Fruit can be used for pickling.
  • Universal Fermenter: All fermented products can be produced in the universal fermenter.
  • Dubs Bad Hygiene: Kvass satisfies thirst need.
  • VGP Vegetable Garden: Fruit can be used for pickling. Barley added to the Make Flour recipe at the Condiment Prep Table. Raw Wheat changes to Raw Spelt.
  • VGP Garden Drinks UF: Alcohols can be used in vinegar must production. Also adds a recipe to make Cane Must from VCE Sugar.
  • Fallout Plants: Razorgrain added to the Make Flour recipe at the Condiment Prep Table.
  • MorrowRim - Alcohol: Alcohols can be used in vinegar must production. Wickwheat added to the Make Flour recipe at the Condiment Prep Table.
  • RimCuisine 2 Core: Raw Wheat changes to Raw Spelt.
  • Ceramics: Clay can be used in construction of the Baiju Pot and Raksi Still.
  • Fertile Fields: Brick can be used in construction of the Baiju Pot and Raksi Still.

Since you've given permission to adopt the mod, I've forked it for 1.4 .

It's 99% XML, there are just a few snippets of C# that probably need to be recompiled for 1.4.

The C# might just be to give a better/worse mood from drinking better/worse quality baiju. Wouldn't surprise me if that's doable these days in XML, even if it means Vanilla Brewing Expanded needs to be made a dependency.

I'm a bit tempted to give it a shot, but no promises.

Looks like it's not 100% XML, but I bet this would be fine without the C# changes. Those are described as "C# code for quality-based thoughts written by XeoNovaDan for Vanilla Medieval Expanded."

Does this mod even need much work done? It's entirely XML isn't it?

tbh, not super interested in updating this one since it's an old commission, someone else can take over if they would like
